Funded through the Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) Encore Fellows Initiative About the Encore Fellows Initiative The Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) Encore Fellows Initiative connects experienced older adults with local nonprofits to lead high-impact, capacity-building projects. Funded through a grant focused on promoting public service among older adults, this initiative highlights the valuable skills, experience, and perspectives older adults bring to the community. Encore Fellows serve as independent contractors, funded with a $2,000 monthly stipend from the CFSJ, for the duration of the project. Project Overview United Way of Gloucester County is leading an innovative countywide nonprofit collaboration designed to strengthen the social service sector through greater coordination, shared resources, and collective impact. As part of this effort, UWGC is launching a Shared Marketing Office that will provide marketing and public relations support to participating nonprofit organizations throughout Gloucester County. The Shared Marketing Office will be staffed by marketing interns from local colleges, coordinated through the Volunteer Center South Jersey, and hosted by UWGC. To ensure the success and sustainability of this model, UWGC seeks an experienced marketing professional to serve as an Encore Fellow and provide leadership, structure, training, and mentorship for the interns and volunteers supporting the initiative. This Encore Fellowship presents a unique opportunity to create a scalable and sustainable model that can significantly improve marketing capacity across dozens of nonprofit organizations while simultaneously developing the next generation of communications professionals. Position Summary The Encore Fellow will serve as the founding Marketing Operations and Mentorship Lead for the Shared Marketing Office. Drawing upon extensive experience in marketing, communications, public relations, and team leadership, the Fellow will establish systems, processes, and training resources that enable interns and volunteers to effectively support participating nonprofit organizations. The Fellow will oversee daily operations of the Shared Marketing Office, create infrastructure for project management and quality control, mentor interns, and help participating organizations improve their visibility, engagement, and communications effectiveness. This role combines strategic planning, organizational development, marketing leadership, and workforce development to create lasting impact across Gloucester County's nonprofit sector. Key Responsibilities Marketing Office Development Build familiarity with participating nonprofit organizations, their missions, communications needs, and target audiences. Work closely with UWGC leadership to design and implement a work-order and project ticketing system for participating organizations. Establish operational workflows and service delivery standards for the Shared Marketing Office. Create and maintain centralized marketing resources for participating organizations. Training & Capacity Building Design and implement a comprehensive onboarding and orientation program for incoming interns. Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), workflows, and training manuals for marketing projects. Create templates, guidelines, and best practices for common nonprofit marketing activities. Build a sustainable knowledge base that can be utilized beyond the fellowship period. Intern & Volunteer Supervision Supervise and mentor college marketing interns throughout each academic semester. Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities. Manage marketing and public relations volunteers supporting the initiative. Ensure quality control and consistency across all marketing deliverables. Communications & Marketing Support Assist participating nonprofits in strengthening their marketing and public relations efforts. Develop and organize shared resources including logos, brand assets, newsletter templates, social media resources, and communications materials. Support strategic communications planning and implementation for participating organizations. Monitor outcomes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Project Goals & Outcomes The Encore Fellow will be expected to achieve the following measurable outcomes: Organizational Impact More than 90% of participating organizations report improvements in their marketing and public relations efforts. More than 75% of participating organizations report increased engagement across their social media platforms. Establish a fully operational Shared Marketing Office with documented systems and processes. Workforce Development More than 80% of participating interns complete meaningful marketing projects that enhance their professional skills, portfolios, and career readiness. Create a structured mentorship and training model that supports ongoing intern success. Program Growth & Sustainability Achieve at least 10% growth in participation and utilization of the Shared Marketing Office each semester. Develop comprehensive SOPs, training materials, and operational infrastructure that enable UWGC to sustain and expand the initiative after the fellowship concludes. Position the Shared Marketing Office as a scalable model for collaborative nonprofit communications support. Qualifications Must be at least 55 years old. Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, public relations, branding, advertising, or related fields. Experience leading marketing teams, managing projects, and mentoring staff or emerging professionals. Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media strategy, content development, branding, and public relations. Demonstrated ability to develop systems, workflows, and organizational processes. Experience training, coaching, or supervising interns, volunteers, or early-career professionals preferred. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent organizational and project management abilities. Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple stakeholders. Experience working with nonprofit organizations or mission-driven initiatives is highly desirable. Reporting Structure The Encore Fellow will report to the Senior Fellow of the Encore Fellows Initiative and collaborate with the Executive Director and staff of United Way of Gloucester County, as well as leadership from participating nonprofit organizations and Volunteer Center South Jersey. Impact This fellowship offers a rare opportunity to create lasting change across Gloucester County's nonprofit sector. Through a single placement, the Encore Fellow will strengthen the communications capacity of dozens of organizations while mentoring and educating multiple cohorts of college interns and volunteers.
