Job Description

Interns are temporary employees who provide support for District staff at varying levels and who receive on-the-job training. Interns are assigned to work on a broad range of projects and assignments in different District units. Interns work side-by-side with District staff to obtain working knowledge and training in the area of assignment related to their field of study. Placement in this classification is temporary, and permanent employment is not guaranteed. The District may not employ more than six (6) months full-time (30 hours per week), or if working part-time or irregular time schedule no more than 1000 or 125 days in a fiscal year.

Position involves assisting in the Public Affairs Division with a wide variety of projects and assignments, including developing written and digital communications, assisting with the development of presentations and social media initiatives; assist with coordinating special events; representing the District at community outreach events; providing administrative and clerical support; assisting with various public relations efforts; provide support for the water education program; and other duties as assigned. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and public communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with elected officials, business representatives, community organizations, the public, and staff both in person and by phone. Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, enthusiasm, diplomacy, sound judgement, and strong ethical standards. Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Flexibility to attend District-related events during evening and weekends as needed. Knowledge of basic research, writing, and editing principles. Experiences in developing content for websites and social media outlets including Facebook, X, Instagram, Nextdoor, and YouTube).
