OVERVIEW
The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Through partnerships with homeowners associations and metropolitan districts throughout the Pikes Peak Region, the YMCA provides innovative programs, events, and community engagement opportunities that enhance quality of life and foster meaningful connections among residents. The Program and Event Director serves as the strategic leader for community programming and events across the YMCA's managed HOA and Metro District communities. Based primarily out of Cordera Community Center, this position is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive portfolio of programs, events, and resident engagement initiatives across multiple communities. The Programs and Events Director works closely with Directors, HOA Boards, Metro District representatives, developers, vendors, sponsors, and YMCA departments to deliver exceptional experiences that support community wellness, resident satisfaction, and the YMCA mission. This position provides leadership and oversight for community event staff, program instructors, contractors, and volunteers while ensuring consistent quality and execution across all locations. The Director is responsible for managing multiple event calendars, developing annual programming strategies, maintaining budgets, cultivating partnerships, and identifying new opportunities to increase resident participation and engagement. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, creative, and relationship-focused professional with strong leadership, project management, and event planning skills who thrives in a dynamic, multi-site environment. Essential Responsibilities Strategic Program Development Develop and oversee annual programming strategies for all YMCA-managed HOA and Metro District communities. Create, implement, and evaluate diverse recreational, educational, wellness, cultural, and social programs for residents of all ages. Identify trends, resident interests, and community needs to develop innovative and engaging programming. Establish measurable goals and performance metrics for participation, engagement, and resident satisfaction. Collaborate with YMCA departments to expand and enhance program offerings throughout all communities. Event Planning and Community Engagement Lead the planning and execution of community events ranging from small resident gatherings to large-scale festivals, concerts, holiday celebrations, and special events serving thousands of participants annually. Develop annual event calendars and coordinate scheduling across multiple communities. Oversee all event logistics, including vendors, entertainment, rentals, permits, sponsorships, staffing, and operational plans. Serve as the primary event lead for major community events. Ensure events are delivered safely, professionally, and within budget. Staff Leadership and Supervision Recruit, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate part-time event staff, program staff, contractors, and volunteers. Provide leadership and direction during events and programs. Foster a culture of excellence, customer service, and teamwork. Assist with staff development, training, and performance management. Budget and Financial Management Develop and manage program and event budgets across multiple communities. Monitor expenditures and ensure responsible stewardship of association resources. Research and negotiate vendor contracts and pricing. Track inventory, supplies, and equipment necessary for programming and events. Identify sponsorship and partnership opportunities that enhance programming while maximizing value to residents. Community and Stakeholder Relations Build and maintain strong working relationships with HOA Boards, Metro District representatives, developers, residents, community partners, sponsors, and vendors. Attend board meetings and community meetings as requested. Serve as a professional representative of the YMCA within all assigned communities. Address resident concerns and facilitate conflict resolution related to programs and events. Marketing and Resident Communications Assist with the development and distribution of marketing materials to promote community programs, events, and initiatives across all assigned communities. Collaborate with other Coordinators / YMCA Leadership to create engaging resident communications, including newsletters, email campaigns, flyers, digital signage, social media content, and community calendars. Ensure programs and events are effectively promoted to maximize resident awareness, participation, and engagement. Coordinate event registration communications, reminders, and follow-up messaging with residents and participants. Maintain consistency in branding, messaging, and communication standards across all YMCA-managed HOA and Metro District communities. Gather resident feedback and participation data to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communication efforts and identify opportunities for improvement. Support community outreach initiatives and foster positive resident engagement through timely, professional, and customer-focused communications. Minimum age of 21. High School Degree Required Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in event planning, recreation management, community programming, hospitality, or related fields Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to travel regularly between YMCA-managed communities. Availability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Experience coordinating vendors, sponsors, contractors, and community partners. Prefer previous experience with HOA / Metro District Communities and event planning Prefer individual who has existing local vendor relationships that can directly impact programming and events Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities across multiple locations. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move equipment during event setup and teardown. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to sit for extended periods while performing administrative duties. Reporting Relationship Reports directly to the Executive Director of HOA and Metro District Communities and works collaboratively with other Directors, HOA Boards, Metro District representatives, and YMCA department leadership.
