Communications Officer

The Communications Officer receives calls for assistance from the public and dispatches appropriate public safety personnel, and maintains a variety of Departmental records. Receives, monitors, and dispatches radio communication traffic for emergency and non-emergency situations. Receives and screens all incoming telephone calls from the public. Categorizes and prioritizes calls. Dispatches appropriate emergency personnel to incident locations. Maintains a continuous log for incoming telephone and radio calls. Logs incoming calls for all participating agencies. Assists with records management functions as needed. Monitors and routes incoming messages from the state computer network. Enters and removes information to the GCIC database; validates information as required. Receives cash bonds. Requests sign, street, and traffic signal repairs from the Public Works Department as necessary. Informs upcoming shift of events occurring during the previous shift. Assists the public by providing directions and information. Communicates with other agencies to obtain and relay information. High School Diploma or GED; Six (6) months of experience in a related field; Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and Valid State of Georgia Driver's License; Georgia POST Communications Officer Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months. Applicants will be disqualified if they have a felony conviction, a family violence conviction, current illegal drug use, or tattoos/branding on the head, face, or ears.
