Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications and Impact Manager leads storytelling, communications, and impact reporting efforts for Maui Food Bank. This role is responsible for creating compelling content, managing public communications and social media platforms, strengthening community awareness, and demonstrating organizational impact through data, stories, and donor reporting. The ideal candidate combines strong writing and digital communication skills with an ability to translate program outcomes into clear, engaging narratives that support fundraising, advocacy, volunteer engagement, and community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications & Storytelling
  • Develop and implement the organization's external communications strategy.
  • Write and edit program partner and donor communications, annual reports, newsletters, press releases, and fundraising campaign materials.
  • Create ethical, dignified, and compelling stories highlighting neighbors, donors, volunteers, staff, and community partners.
  • Manage our organization's website and social media content while growing our reach through social media channels.
  • Coordinate photography, video, and multimedia storytelling projects.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communications.
  • Track and analyze communication metrics (e.g. media hits, web traffic, email open rates, social media engagement) to continuously refine strategies. Impact Measurement & Reporting
  • Collaborate with program staff to track, analyze, and present quantitative data (demographics, outputs, success indicators) and qualitative insights (testimonials, feedback, case studies).
  • Translate key metrics into accessible, visually appealing infographics and impact reports for donors, grant funders, board members, and stakeholders.
  • Support grant reporting and evaluation processes. Media & Public Relations
  • Build relationships with local media and community organizations.
  • Respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews or press opportunities.
  • Promote campaigns, events, food drives, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Align public messaging with Feeding America guidelines and in coordination with partner food banks across Hawaii. Fundraising & Campaign Support
  • Support fundraising campaigns with communication materials and donor messaging.
  • Assist with event promotion and sponsorship/donor recognition.
  • Develop donor impact stories and stewardship communications. Community Engagement
  • Help increase public awareness of food insecurity and hunger-related issues.
  • Represent the organization at community events when needed.
  • Support volunteer recruitment and engagement communications. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in communications, nonprofit marketing, fundraising communications, or impact reporting.
  • Excellent written, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing social media and digital communication platforms.
  • Exceptional judgment for navigating high-stakes communications and stewarding organizational reputation
  • Ability to tailor content to diverse audiences, while ensuring a respectful approach to sharing the stories of the communities we serve
  • Team-oriented mindset and ability to work across departments to gather information
  • Ability to analyze and present data clearly.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CRM systems, or email marketing platforms preferred. Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of food insecurity, hunger relief, or nonprofit services.
  • Photography, videography, or graphic design experience.
  • Familiarity with grant reporting and donor stewardship.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timely completion of impact and donor reports.

  • In-person in the Maui Food Bank office in Wailuku, Maui
  • Occasional evening or weekend work for events and fundraising campaigns.
  • Local travel may be required.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
