Our client is searching for a relationship-driven leader to step into the role of Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. If you are a strategic communicator with deep roots in government relations and a genuine passion for public service, this role was built for you. You will report directly to the CEO and Chief Strategy and Finance Officer as you engage policymakers at every level of government, and build the coalitions that make transformation possible. What You'll Do Build & Sustain Strategic Relationships Cultivate and maintain relationships with city, state, and federal government officials, from council members to congressional delegations Serve as the organization's voice in public forums, community meetings, and intergovernmental discussions Manage and coordinate intergovernmental agreements, cooperative endeavors, and MOUs with local and regional partners Build strong working relationships with the City of New Orleans, City Council, Regional Planning Commission, state and federal legislators, and key business and government partners Lead Legislative Strategy & Policy Monitor and analyze legislative and policy developments that affect transit operations and translate them into action Develop legislative priorities in coordination with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and lobbyists Communicate the organization's policy and legislative agenda to Executive Leadership, the Board of Commissioners, and external partners Educate local, state, and federal officials on transit issues and advocate for solutions that serve the community Respond to inquiries from elected officials and help resolve constituent concerns Drive Policy Research & Recommendations Analyze public policy proposals and report on their anticipated impact on transit operations and the region Collaborate with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to craft policy recommendations for the Board of Commissioners and other governing bodies Partner with Transit Advocacy Groups and the Regional Planning Commission on transit policy positions, research, and white papers Qualifications and Experience Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, or a related field (equivalent experience considered) 5-7 years of progressive experience in transit, local government, or public administration Demonstrated expertise in intergovernmental affairs, planning, research, and policy development Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws applicable to public entities Proven track record of engagement with public officials and managing intergovernmental and national relationships Skills & Abilities That Set You Apart A natural relationship builder, you earn trust, open doors, and bring people to the table Clear, confident communicator in written/verbal communication and in the boardroom Strategic thinker who can navigate complex political landscapes without losing sight of mission Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and strict deadlines Comfortable working with data, research, and analysis to inform and support policy positions Diplomatic, discreet, and skilled at managing sensitive matters with tact and professionalism Work Environment This is a professional office environment. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods and lift up to 15 pounds. Some travel and attendance at public meetings, legislative sessions, and community forums should be expected.
