Job Description

Job Summary The Peoples Action (TPA) is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Outreach Worker focused on engaging girls and young women who are at high risk of violence involvement, victimization, exploitation, or system involvement. This role involves building trusted relationships, providing mentorship and emotional support, mediating conflicts, connecting participants to resources, and promoting safety, healing, and empowerment within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage directly with girls and young women in violence-impacted communities Conduct street outreach, community engagement, and participant support, including evening and weekend shifts Build trusting relationships with youth and young women impacted by trauma, violence, abuse, exploitation, or instability Mediate conflicts and assist with de-escalation between individuals or groups Connect participants to supportive services including education, employment, housing, counseling, healthcare, and mentorship opportunities Provide emotional support, encouragement, and guidance to participants navigating personal and community challenges Document daily interactions and maintain accurate case notes and participant records Attend regular team meetings, trainings, fellowship activities, and community events Assist with and lead fellowship groups, mentorship activities, and empowerment programming Build relationships with schools, juvenile detention centers, and community partners serving girls and young women Support outreach efforts related to domestic violence, healthy relationships, and personal safety education
Qualifications:
Lived experience and/or strong understanding of community dynamics, youth culture, and challenges impacting girls and young women Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building authentic connections Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends Commitment to nonviolence, healing, mentorship, and community empowerment
Pass MDHHS Central Registry Check Preferred:
Previous experience in outreach, mentoring, youth development, domestic violence advocacy, or violence prevention Familiarity with Detroit neighborhoods and community resources Experience working with teenage girls and young women facing trauma or system involvement
