Job Description

Provide assistance to the public supplying information and dispatching emergency aid. Operate multiple computer systems for two-way radio communications, Enhanced 911 telephone systems, records management databases and wide area network interfaces. Analyze situations quickly and take appropriate emergency response in a timely fashion. Log all activities of responding units and take appropriate action upon activation. Oversee operation of prisoner holding area, provide public information and monitor building security. The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Operates radio base station (console) transmitting and receiving messages to and from public safety agencies in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and Police Department policies and procedures. Answers multiple telephone lines, both business and emergency, to answer inquiries, handle complaints, and dispatch responses in accordance with Police Department policies and procedures. Operates inter-agency computer to relay and receive information from other criminal agencies. Monitors various alarm and warning systems. Prepares and maintains required logs, records, and reports. Performs other duties and participates in training as assigned by the Communications Supervisor. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Minimum of 18 years of age. Must type a minimum of 40 wpm. Complete state computer training programs as well as departmental training. One (1) year experience preferred in the field of telecommunications for Police Department/Public Safety activities, but is not required. OR Combination of education, training or experience which would qualify for the position as determined by the City Administrator and Police Chief.
Knowledge of:
Computers and computer operating systems. Considerable knowledge of names and locations of principal streets and buildings in Osage Beach, as well as the surrounding area.
Ability to:
Stay calm, analyze situations, make decisions, and solve problems. Coordinate several agencies and personnel. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, other agencies and general public. Understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision.
