Job Description

Overview Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive government relations strategy identifying public policy opportunity and creating opportunity for relationships with key government officials and legislators. Enhances D-H's role as a public policy stakeholder. This position can sit in southern, NH and must be able to travel throughout DH locations in VT/NH. Responsibilities Organizes the effective participation of D-H representatives in the shaping of healthcare public policy and in offering testimony on specific legislation and administrative proceedings. Develops effective relationships with the various leaders in local government. Coordinates state lobbying efforts with other advocacy organizations such as NHHA, NHMS, NHNA, BIA, and other coalitions. Facilitates the ties between the D-H community practices with local government and important health care related community organizations. Works with divisional leaders to identify opportunities for involvement with local officials and state legislators in individual communities. Identifies key issues for D-H involvement, either as a stakeholder or a resource. Provides regular environmental assessments for development of organizational positions. Promotes the visibility of D-H throughout New Hampshire as New Hampshire's academic health center. Assists D-H representatives in establishing or enhancing relationships with government officials. Coaches D-H representatives who are testifying before legislative, administration and regulatory bodies. Coordinates the New Hampshire activities with those of the Vermont and federal Government Relations representatives to ensure consistency of positions. Shares important public policy information that may be beneficial in either arena that requires involvement of the state delegations to Washington, or that may influence public health policy at the federal level. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in government relations, public policy, or external affairs, including leadership responsibility. Thorough understanding of the state government structure and legislative process. Proven track record of success in building relationships with government officials and other stakeholders, and serving as an advocate in the political arena.
