As part of the Executive Events and Protocol team, you will coordinate agendas, organize logistics, prepare materials, and support events that highlight the Laboratory's work and strengthen key relationships. Government Affairs Specialist 2 $80,400 - $127,900 At the higher level, you will take a more strategic lead in designing and guiding complex visits and meetings that support the Laboratory's mission. You will anticipate priorities, manage shifting needs, work directly with senior officials, and apply advanced knowledge of protocol and professional standards to ensure every engagement reflects the Laboratory's excellence. This role is ideal for someone who has navigated high level interactions with confidence and poise while delivering polished, thoughtful experiences. About the Organization Los Alamos National Laboratory's Communications and External Affairs - Executive Events and Protocol Group (CEA-PRO) works with senior staff at the Laboratory and high-ranking U.S. and foreign dignitaries to strategically enhance relationships and reputation with key stakeholders. "Protocol" comes from Greek, meaning "to glue things together". As the name suggests, we create the optimal conditions for decision-makers to succeed. Both levels of this position require exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to make sound, real-time decisions throughout the various aspects of high-level engagements.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Event Planning For this role you must have at least two years of experience with event organizing and planning (e.g., executive meetings, high-level customer engagements, foreign delegation meetings, community outreach, conferences, and/or workshops), providing end-to-end logistics coordination. Software Skills You must have working proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams. Reliability & Dedication To succeed in this role, you must have a demonstrated record of punctuality and willingness to go the extra mile for customers, which may involve occasional travel and/or irregular hours. Additional Job Requirements for Government Affairs Specialist 2: In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: Customer Focus For the higher-level position, you must have experience working with high-level stakeholders and customers (e.g., elected and appointed officials, C-suite, military rank O-7 and above, foreign dignitaries, etc.). Relevant skills include leading agenda and logistics development, identifying and being proactive to meet internal and external priorities, and managing simultaneous deadlines and shifting goals. High-Level Officials and Industry Knowledge For the higher-level position, you will need to have previous experience interacting with high-level government, military, corporate, and/or diplomatic officials. You have an advanced knowledge and can apply the skills of one or more of the following: hospitality and government industry standards; corporate, diplomatic, or military protocol and advance; and/or business etiquette, customer engagement or cultural training. Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Education Preference may be given for education or experience in hospitality management, business administration, marketing, public relations, or communications. Laboratory Agenda Knowledge of the Laboratory's strategic goals and commitments. Protocol Familiarity with business, government, and cultural protocol. Continuous Improvement Proven track record of procedure improvement or implementation of new processes, with creative problem solving.
Work Environment:

Clearance:
Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements• for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. •Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test:
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
