Assistant Athletic Director - Marketing and Communications 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 1500 South Avenue N, Portales, NM 88130 Full-time Eastern New Mexico University 135 reviews Full-time JOB Position SummaryThe Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Communications reports to the Senior Associate AD for External Affairs and is responsible for leading all media relations, marketing, fan engagement, and digital growth strategies for ENMU Athletics. This position plays a critical role in driving attendance, revenue generation, student-athlete and sports program promotion, and overall brand visibility for the department.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties and Responsibilities:
Sports Information & Media RelationsServe as primary or secondary media contact, managing relationships with local, regional, and national outlets Write and distribute press releases, game recaps, previews, and feature stories aligned with marketing and brand strategy Oversee statistical reporting, record keeping, and NCAA/conference compliance for all assigned sports Lead media day planning and execution, including content capture, messaging alignment, and distributionManage and update the official ENMU athletics website, including rosters, schedules, and news content Coordinate game day media operations and communications, including live stats, postgame reports, and broadcast supportOversee submission of internal honors, conference and national awards, honors, and nominations Support broadcast coordination (FloSports and other platforms), including graphics, storylines, and on-air information Assist in crisis communications and official statements in coordination with senior administration Archive and maintain historical records, statistics, and program historyMarketing & Revenue GenerationDevelop and execute a comprehensive, department-wide marketing strategy, including sport-specific plansCreate campaigns to drive: Season ticket salesGroup salesEvent attendanceCollaborate to build campaigns (email, SMS, digital) focused on renewals, deposits, and new salesSupport sponsorship activation, fulfillment, and partner visibility across events and digital platformsSocial Media & Digital StrategyOwn and execute department-wide social media strategy across Instagram, X, TikTok, Facebook, and other developing social media platformsManage daily content calendar and real-time game day postingTrack analytics and KPIs (engagement, reach, conversions) to optimize performanceContent & Creative OversightOversee creation of video, graphics, and digital storytelling contentAlign content strategy with recruiting, fan engagement, and sponsor valueEnsure consistent brand voice and visual identity across all platformsFan Engagement & Game Day ExperienceLead game day atmosphere, promotions, and fan engagement initiativesScript and execute in-game elements, including reads, promotions, and sponsor activationsDevelop fan journey strategies (first-time attendee to repeat customer)Drive student, faculty/staff, and community engagement effortsLeadership & CollaborationWorks with senior administration to assist in the direction of: Sports Information CoordinatorGreyhound Broadcast Coordinator Sports Information Assistant and other student workersWork collaboratively with other internal and external unitsAssist in overall branding and external strategy for ENMU AthleticsRegular and predictable attendance requiredPerform other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related fieldMinimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in collegiate athleticsDemonstrated experience in media relations/sports information, marketing, promotions, and fan engagement Experience in social media management and digital marketing preferredFamiliarity with CRM/email platforms (e.g., Hometown, Mailchimp) preferredExperience with analytics tools and performance tracking preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication and storytelling skillsAbility to analyze data and make strategic decisionsCreative thinker with strong organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
