March, 2026 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis Internship is located in the United Nations Team of Experts on the Rule of Law and Sexual Violence in Conflict (TOE), Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary- General on Sexual Violence in Conflict (SRSG-SVC). The TOE was created by United Nations Security Council resolution 1888 (2009) with the purpose of assisting national authorities in strengthening the rule of law, with the aim of ensuring criminal accountability for perpetrators of conflict-related sexual violence. The TOE Internship is for an initial period of three months, with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the TOE. The intern will contribute to the development of the TOE'sCRSV/SBGC
section of the Sherloc case law database, by analysingCRSV/SGBC
judgments assigned to them and preparing case law summaries for the database. TheCRSV/SGBC
section of the database is a flagship feature of the TOE's creation of a Network and Community of Practice for Practitioners Pursuing Criminal Accountability for Conflict-related Sexual Violence (Community of Practice), an initiative which aims to enhance knowledge and capacity building, and cooperation, between CRSV practitioners in national jurisdictions. The internship is UNPAID. Interns are required to work four to five days per week (20-35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The work hours during internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern. Responsibilities Within limits of delegated authority the Intern will be required to perform the following:- Prepare case summaries for cases identified by the TOE and assigned to the intern, in accordance with the TOE's protocol and blueprint for Sherloc case summaries;
- Provide the case summaries to the TOE for final review and upload to the Sherloc database;
- Assist members of the TOE with research and other tasks related to the Sherloc database or wider Community of Practice initiative; and
- Perform any other functions as requested by the supervisor.
- Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
