Job Description
The Associate Director of Community Partnerships and Outreach assist the Hagen Center team in leading the center's vision and strategy for fostering robust, impactful, and mutually beneficial community engagement with the Greater Springfield region and beyond. This position uplifts Wittenberg University's strategic plan priority to uplift and be in partnership with our community and strives to have students embrace our community, learn from and collaborate with partners that respond to community priorities, and apply their knowledge and talents to affect positive change. This position promotes ethical community engagement campus-wide through education in civic engagement theory, intentional preparation, and reflective practice. In addition, the Associate Director takes the lead on educating the campus community on the civic engagement requirement. Essential Duties include but not limited to: Institute and oversee a tracking system for student civic engagement participation. Develop, coordinate and promote campus-wide events for the purpose of students' civic learning (for example, national and local days of service, Welcome Week programs, etc.), service fairs, democracy education and engagement in partnership with campus departments, including but not limited to, Athletics, Student Involvement, First Year Experience, Campus Ministries, McClain Center for Diversity, and Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations. Recruit, select, and train student coordinators who assist civic engagement programming and participate in civic leadership experiences. Champion and support the work of identifying new trends and best practices in the field of civic engagement including, but not limited to, non-partisan democratic engagement. Take the lead on working with the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Student Success with the FIRE Week (week-long experiences that give students opportunities for experiential learning outside their semester structure) civic engagement selection, training and logistics. Plan, manage, and implement the student selection process, orientation and weekly gatherings for the summer civic engagement internship program. Identify, cultivate, and sustain strong and trusting relationships and collaborations with university departments focused on the civic education of students. Build sustained connections with students to strengthen recruitment, enhance communication, and expand civic engagement initiatives. Create and lead workshops for student leaders to ensure best practices and ethical engagement with the community as well as community engagement project planning and implementation. Develop and teach a course for aspiring civic leaders that responds to the evolving civic landscape and offers community building, dialogue facilitation, and mentoring. Manage all civic engagement recognition awards processes, including selection, interviews, and award notification for student, faculty, and staff recognition programs. In collaboration with Career Engagement, provide resources and advisement on post-graduate service opportunities. In collaboration with the Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, cultivate an alumni network of former students who were active in civic leadership during their tenure at Wittenberg. Assist the Associate Director of Community Partnerships and Outreach in implementing conflict resolution training and handle and help resolve issues that arise between partners and students. With the Hagen Center team, envision, develop and assess student civic engagement programmatic initiatives and strategies that enhance the University's recruitment and retention of students.
