Job Description

Position Summary The Community Engagement Specialist serves as a liaison between the organization and the surrounding community to promote awareness, education, and access to detoxification and residential substance use disorder treatment services. This role focuses on building meaningful, collaborative relationships with community partners, increasing understanding of available services, and supporting individuals and families in navigating the treatment system. All activities are conducted in alignment with New Jersey DMHAS regulations, ethical standards, and the organization's mission. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, healthcare providers, social service agencies, shelters, faith-based organizations, and advocacy groups.
  • Provide education and informational presentations about substance use disorders, levels of care, and treatment options.
  • Participate in community meetings, coalitions, and task forces addressing substance use and mental health.
  • Serve as a point of contact for community partners seeking information or assistance with treatment navigation.
  • Collaborate with clinical and admissions staff to ensure accurate and consistent communication regarding services and eligibility.
  • Assist individuals and families with understanding treatment options and referral processes.
  • Coordinate outreach events such as resource fairs, awareness campaigns, and prevention initiatives.
  • Maintain records of outreach activities and community contacts.
  • Stay informed about local, state, and regional resources to support continuity of care.
  • Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA standards at all times.
  • Promote a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach.
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Public Health, Psychology, or related field OR equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in community outreach, public health, behavioral health, or social services.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment and recovery supports.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred:
  • Experience in detox and/or residential treatment programs.
  • Familiarity with
NJ DMHAS

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build trust with diverse populations
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable speaking to small and large groups
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proficient in basic computer applications. Work Environment & Schedule
  • Combination of office and community-based work
  • Some evenings or weekends may be required. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel locally
  • Ability to sit, stand, and use computer for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Compliance & Expectations

  • Must adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality standards
  • Must pass required background checks and screenings per NJ regulations.

$80,000.00
