Community Relations - Local Representative

Overview:

Bantam Communications is seeking an energetic and action-oriented part-time Project Ambassador to represent and build support for a solar project in Charles City County, Virginia. In this role, you will work with project staff, Bantam Communications staff, supporters, community organizations, and key stakeholders to create positive community sentiment and support the solar project through the local approval process. As a key local representative of the project, you will be a publicly visible and accessible member of the project team. You must be comfortable engaging with people in a wide range of settings, productively and professionally.

Responsibilities May Include:

Community engagement: Contribute to local project organizing efforts. Build and maintain positive relationships with supporters, landowners, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders in the project area through meetings, calls, and other outreach. Present to groups, classes, and organizations. Make strategic recommendations as needed. Field public questions, comments, and concerns gathered and ensure answers are provided. Help plan and manage events as needed.

Government monitoring:

Monitor county and municipal government proceedings related to renewable energy generally and the project specifically. Professionally represent the project at business and community functions.

Supporter organizing:

Identify, recruit, and mobilize project supporters to contact local elected officials and agencies, attend public meetings, and communicate the project's benefits to community members.

Data organization:

Ensure all conversations and information gathered through outreach and engagement activities are accurately recorded in various databases and systems.

Media monitoring:

Monitor social and traditional media channels, especially hyper-local groups. Recruit authors and help draft letters of support for the project. Assist with local media outreach when appropriate.

Qualifications:

Must live in the Charles City area. Must have reliable transportation. General knowledge of local politics and community affairs. Commitment to renewable energy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience using various computer tools, including Microsoft and Google Suite. Ability to work independently while collaborating in a remote team environment.

Position Type:

This is a 1099 contractor position.

Rate of Pay:

$25-50/hour, depending on experience, with a start date of May or June 2026.

Hours:

Approximately 20 hours per week; flexible schedule, some evening and weekend availability required.
