Job Description:
The Deputy Director of Campaigns & Organizing turns organizing theory into daily practice and daily practice into power that changes what is possible in Florida. This role is responsible for ensuring that Regional Directors or Lead Organizers are developing organizers who are in turn identifying and developing public leaders; creating a seamless and irresistible experience for members; running campaigns that win. Where the Director sets the standard, the Deputy Director holds us to it.
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee the implementation of the structures, practices, and leadership orientation that are essential to a healthy organizing culture. Regularly analyze our data and make recommendations to the director of campaigns and organizing. Ensure we are prepared to absorb and make asks of new contacts within 48 hours. Directly manage 3-4 people (Regional Directors, Lead Organizers, or Campaigners) to coach and hold organizers accountable to their goals. Coach and hold accountable their team for growing and developing public leaders that can win campaigns. Maintain a birdseye view of all active campaigns in your portfolio and forecast peaks. Ensure your team's data is consistently captured, regularly reviewed, and used as a tool for coaching and growth, not just reporting. Maintain a clear-eyed assessment of your team's understanding and practice of organizing and campaign skills. Develop and execute a regular cadence of trainings and workshops to close gaps. Ensure all campaigns have a clearly defined roles, demand, winnable milestones, organizing constituency or geography, and building toward bold public action peaks. Hold Regional Directors or Lead Organizers accountable to building toward those peaks through consistent organizing. Help coordinate mobilization efforts across the organization. Own the organizational planning and execution of statewide mass mobilizations and major cultural moments. Ensure these moments are not one-off events but are integrated into campaign strategy, used to develop leaders, and build toward the organization's longer-term power-building goals. Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
At least five years experience training, supporting, and managing staff in organizing and community engagement. At least two years or cycles of community organizing or community engagement/political campaign experience High proficiency using and training others in Every Action and VAN High proficiency using Google Suite productivity tools including Sheets, Docs, and Slides. Experience utilizing and managing voter contact tools such as Hustle, ThruText, ThruTalk, HubDialer, VPB Connect, etc. Florida based organizing, canvassing or campaign experience preferred Applicants must share a strong commitment to Florida Rising's mission and be able to draw others into Florida Rising work. Self-motivated; ability to take initiative and to manage multiple projects; and ability to work independently. Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team to advance the mission/goals of the organization. Ability to interact with and understand people of various social, cultural, economic, and education backgrounds. Fluency in English is required, and capacity in Spanish or Haitian Creole is beneficial. Some local and statewide travel expected; occasional out-of-state travel may be required Reliable means of transportation Salary to commensurate with experience.
