Job Description
Job Overview The Director of Marketing and Communications provides vision, leadership, and strategy for all internal and external communications of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. This position oversees the church's overall messaging, branding, and content delivery to engage the congregation and community in meaningful ways. With a focus on storytelling, digital innovation, and cohesive communication across platforms, the director helps shape, strengthen, and unify the church's voice and visibility while collaborating with other ministry areas and managing related contractors and vendors. This position develops and implements the church's brand, messaging strategy, and internal communications plan. The director manages content creation, design work, video production, social media strategy, and web presence, using the theological concepts of the church to guide all communications efforts. Essential Functions Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that supports the mission, values, and ministry priorities of the church. Lead church-wide communications planning, storytelling, and content creation, including worship promotion, ministry highlights, community involvement, campaigns, and strategic initiatives. Direct photography and videography for storytelling, event coverage, and campaign promotion. Manage and develop digital platforms, including multiple websites, email campaigns, social media channels, video production, and audio podcasts. Oversee branding, graphic design, and layout design, and develop the mission and visual identity of the church while guiding cross-ministry alignment of our brand, style, values, and mission. Collaborate with ministry staff, clergy, and leadership to ensure consistency and clarity in messaging across departments and assist leaders in implementing a coordinated communications plan. Provide guidance for staff and leaders on messaging, best practices, and communication planning. Serve as project manager for complex communication efforts, including capital campaigns, new ministry launches, stewardship initiatives, and pastoral transitions. Develop and manage the communications budget and guide resource planning for equipment, campaigns, platforms, subscriptions, and operations. Monitor analytics across digital platforms and adjust content strategies accordingly. Qualifications At least 2 years of experience in communications, including leadership and digital strategy. Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, design, social science, or related field. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to voice, clarity, and engagement. Experience in photography and videography for storytelling, event coverage, and campaign promotion, including video and audio production and photo editing. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Microsft applications, email marketing systems, and project management. Familiarity with typography, color systems, vector-based graphics, and print production is a plus. Ability to comprehend, explain, and integrate the theology of the church into communications. Experience leading teams, managing projects, and working collaboratively across departments. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with flexibility to adjust schedule to attend church events or meet other business needs. Knowledge and experience with website management, including WordPress. Spiritual Qualities Desired Exhibit Christian character and love for Jesus Christ.
