Reporting to the Fractional CMO, this role manages the marketing calendar, leads the internal marketing team, coordinates campaigns, supports sales enablement, oversees events, manages internal communications, and ensures marketing work is completed on time and aligned with brand standards. This is a hands-on leadership role for a practical marketing operator who can manage people, organize priorities, support multiple operating companies, and jump into the work when needed. The Director of Marketing and Communications will directly manage the Marketing Specialist and Content Specialist, helping each role stay focused, productive, and aligned with Legacy's business goals. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced infrastructure services environment. This person should understand how to translate strategy into action, support field-driven storytelling, coordinate internal and external communications, and help build a stronger marketing function across a growing family of employee-owned companies. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities described here are not a comprehensive list, and the scope of the job may change as necessitated by the business demands. Marketing Leadership & Execution Turn Fractional CMO strategy into clear, organized, and completed marketing work. Own and manage the marketing calendar across Legacy Utility Group and its operating companies. Lead recurring marketing meetings, track priorities, and keep campaigns moving forward. Manage the Marketing Specialist and Content Specialist, including priorities, workload, accountability, and professional development. Coordinate marketing activity across Legacy Utility Group, Nor-Cal Pipeline Services, ECS, JVAC, and Guardian Traffic Solutions. Support quarterly and annual marketing planning in collaboration with the Fractional CMO and senior leadership. Identify opportunities to improve marketing processes, workflows, communication, and execution. Coordinate external vendors, agencies, contractors, and print partners as needed. Brand Stewardship & Marketing Coordination Ensure consistent brand messaging, tone, and visual standards across all marketing channels and materials. Support the implementation of brand strategy, positioning, and messaging developed in partnership with the Fractional CMO. Oversee the creation and maintenance of marketing collateral, presentations, service sheets, recruiting materials, and promotional materials. Help maintain brand consistency across Legacy's family of companies while supporting the distinct needs of each operating brand. Coordinate website updates, landing pages, and content improvements with internal team members and external partners. Review marketing materials for quality, clarity, accuracy, and brand alignment before publication or distribution. Campaign Management & Sales Enablement Develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns that support brand awareness, recruiting, sales, business development, and client retention. Coordinate campaign plans, timelines, assignments, deliverables, and follow-up activity. Work with Business Development, Operations, and leadership teams to align marketing activity with company goals and market opportunities. Support the development of sales enablement materials, including service sheets, project profiles, battlecards, presentation decks, proposal language, client emails, and follow-up materials. Track campaign activity and provide basic performance reporting, insights, and recommendations. Help identify repeatable campaigns, content themes, and marketing systems that can be used across multiple Legacy brands. Internal Communications Support internal communications that keep employees informed, connected, and engaged across Legacy's geographically distributed workforce. Partner with HR, Operations, and senior leadership to communicate organizational updates, milestones, employee ownership initiatives, safety campaigns, recruiting messages, and company news. Coordinate internal newsletters, announcements, employee-facing updates, and other communication tools. Help ensure internal messaging reflects Legacy's culture, values, ownership mindset, and external brand voice. Work with the Content Specialist to capture and share employee stories, project wins, crew highlights, and company milestones. Support communication around company events, ESOP initiatives, leadership updates, and employee engagement efforts. Content, Email & Digital Marketing Oversee the marketing team's content production calendar, ensuring consistent and timely content across social, email, website, and internal channels. Guide the Content Specialist in field storytelling, subject matter expert interviews, thought leadership, project stories, and social media content. Guide the Marketing Specialist in email production, design support, campaign graphics, event materials, and collateral updates. Coordinate email marketing efforts, including customer updates, recruiting campaigns, event communications, internal newsletters, and campaign follow-up. Ensure digital content is accurate, useful, timely, and aligned with Legacy's brand standards. Support website content updates, blog content, landing pages, project stories, recruiting pages, and other digital marketing needs. Monitor content performance and recommend improvements based on engagement, feedback, and business priorities. Events, Sponsorships & Community Engagement Coordinate trade shows, sponsorships, customer events, recruiting events, community engagement initiatives, and company-hosted events. Manage event planning timelines, assignments, logistics, promotional materials, communications, and post-event follow-up. Work with the Marketing Specialist on event design needs, booth materials, handouts, signage, apparel, promotional items, and email communications. Collaborate with Business Development, Operations, and leadership to ensure events support business goals and brand visibility. Support special initiatives such as 811 Day, employee events, client appreciation efforts, association involvement, and other brand-building opportunities. Public Relations & External Communications Support external communications that strengthen Legacy's reputation with clients, partners, employees, recruits, industry associations, and community stakeholders. Draft and coordinate company announcements, press releases, project updates, leadership messages, and external communications as needed. Support proactive public relations efforts in coordination with the Fractional CMO and senior leadership. Help maintain relationships with industry associations, community partners, and key external stakeholders. Support crisis communications planning and response as directed by senior leadership and the Fractional CMO. Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop the Marketing Specialist and Content Specialist. Establish clear priorities, expectations, and deadlines for the internal marketing team. Provide regular feedback and support employee growth within the marketing department. Foster a creative, collaborative, organized, and results-oriented team culture. Help clarify roles and responsibilities as the marketing department grows. Build strong working relationships with leadership, Operations, Business Development, HR, and field teams.
Qualification Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field preferred but not required.
Experience:
7+ years of progressive marketing and communications experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership, management, or team coordination role. Experience in construction, utility services, infrastructure, industrial services, or B2B field services strongly preferred. Demonstrated success managing marketing calendars, campaigns, events, internal communications, and cross-functional projects. Experience managing direct reports, vendors, agencies, or external contractors. Experience supporting sales teams, recruiting efforts, field operations, or multi-location organizations preferred. Experience with email marketing, digital marketing, content coordination, events, and marketing collateral production preferred. Required Skills Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple brands, priorities, campaigns, and deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex work into clear, practical messaging. Hands-on marketing execution ability across campaigns, content, email, events, collateral, internal communications, and sales enablement. Ability to lead, organize, and hold team members accountable while maintaining a collaborative team culture. Strong brand judgment and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively with executives, field teams, operations leaders, business development teams, HR, vendors, and creative contributors. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CRM systems, email marketing platforms, website CMS tools, or marketing automation tools is a plus. Strong organizational skills and the ability to create structure in a fast-paced, operations-driven environment. Practical understanding of digital marketing, social media, email marketing, website content, and campaign reporting. High level of integrity and professional judgment with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
