Job Description
IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference. Reporting to the VP - People, Culture & Community, the Director, Community Engagement is responsible for leading IREN's community engagement strategy across all operating regions to protect and enable long‑term operations, support responsible growth, and build durable trust with the communities in which we operate. This role sits at the intersection of operations, risk, reputation, and workforce strategy. It provides leadership, governance, and insight so local engagement efforts are aligned, measurable, and scaled consistently as the business expands. With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. Senior leadership experience in community engagement, external affairs, government relations, or social impact in complex operating environments. Demonstrated experience managing enterprise‑level risk, reputation, or stakeholder strategy across multiple regions. Strong understanding of operating in rural, infrastructure‑heavy, or politically sensitive environments. Proven ability to scale programs, design operating models, and lead distributed teams. Executive presence with the ability to advise senior leaders and represent the company externally with credibility and confidence. Own and continuously evolve IREN's community engagement operating model, overseeing how local teams execute while maintaining company alignment. Establish clear frameworks, standards, and decision rights for community engagement work across regions to maintain consistency, accountability, and scalability. Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate community, reputational, and political risks related to expansion, permitting, and sustained operations - escalating as necessary. Lead early-state community planning for new markets and sites, including stakeholder mapping, issue anticipation, and engagement sequencing. Partner closely with People & Culture, Operations, Legal and Development to ensure community considerations are built into planning and decision‑making and not managed reactively. Provide strategic leadership, direction, and support to Community Engagement Managers across regions (U.S., Canada, and Australia as applicable). Enable local teams to build strong relationships with key community members. Maintain consistent delivery of community grants, sponsorships, bursaries, events, and Indigenous relations across sites. Define and oversee measurement and reporting of community investment ROI, including social impact, workforce outcomes, and risk reduction. Use data and insight to refine strategy, prioritize investment, and demonstrate tangible outcomes over time. In partnership with People & Culture, collaborate on community‑based workforce strategies, including partnerships with schools, colleges, universities, and training providers. Align community engagement efforts with Talent and People teams to strengthen early‑career pipelines, local hiring outcomes, and long‑term workforce sustainability. Ensure employer brand narratives at the community level are authentic, consistent, and aligned with the employee experience. Serve as a senior representative of IREN at key community and industry forums, particularly in high‑impact or sensitive contexts. Build and sustain long‑term strategic partnerships with municipalities, educational institutions, nonprofits, and Indigenous communities. Advise key internal stakeholders on community sentiment, emerging risks, and strategic opportunities.
