ROLE AND PURPOSE
The Director of Communications leads the development and execution of a clear, proactive, and strategic communications system that advances the district's vision, builds stakeholder trust, and supports improved student outcomes. This role oversees all internal and external communications, including media relations, marketing, digital platforms, and community engagement, ensuring consistent messaging and transparency across the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, English, or related field required Master's degree in communications, public administration, education administration, public policy, or related field preferred
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, business/marketing, or administration preferably in a school district, government agency, or large organization Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing organizational change, and executing strategic communications plans Proven track record of developing and implementing communications strategies to support organizational priorities
Other Requirements:
Strong commitment to equity and culturally responsive communication Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
I.
COMMUNICATIONS LEADERSHIP
CONNALLY
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
Develop and implement district-wide communications strategy Provide strategic communications counsel to Superintendent Maintain consistent district messaging and branding Monitor effectiveness and adjust strategy
II. INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
Ensure clear and consistent communication with staff Communicate rationale behind district decisions Establish feedback systems for staff input Provide training on communication practices
III. EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
Manage media relations Communicate district priorities to community Ensure translation and culturally responsive outreach Serve as district spokesperson
IV. MARKETING AND DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS
: Oversee website and social media platforms Develop marketing campaigns aligned to priorities Ensure consistency across publications
V. CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS
Develop crisis communication plans Train staff on crisis protocols Serve as Public Information Officer during emergencies
VI. COLLABORATION
Align communication across departments Support recruitment communications Lead cross-functional projects

X. ADDITIONAL AREAS OF SUPPORT
Assist the Human Resources Department in recruitment by attending job fairs and creating social media communication for job postings, employee recognitions, and other events. Partner with Career and Technology Education in recruiting partners to provide more rigorous learning experiences for students. Work with the Education Foundation or other supporting organizations to develop and maintain effective relationships with area businesses and community partners on behalf of the district. Raise public awareness of the Education Foundation and the district through presentations to clubs and organizations, publications, and special programs. Develop and implement direct marketing programs and events to cultivate, motivate, and solicit individual, foundation, and corporate donors and partners. Promote community engagement by providing positive public relations between the school district and community. Prepare and provide information to the public about the activities, goals, and policies of the school district to develop community engagement.
