Job Description

TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS SECTION DEPARTMENTAL RADIO COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR, SR-26
Summary of Duties:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Chief of Police, Support Services Bureau, the incumbent is responsible for administering the overall activities, programs and operations of the Telecommunications Systems Section. The incumbent must have knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission.
Example of Duties:
Plans, designs, and implements various programs relative to communications and electronic systems. Plans, designs, manages and implements programs pertaining to 700/800 MHz trunked radio system, data gateways, Radio Over Internet Protocol system RoIP, command communication consoles, mobile and portable radios, and other departmental electronic systems. Prepares plans and specifications for equipment and systems. Reviews and approves drawings and plans for equipment modification and development. Plans, coordinates and directs the integration of the City departments' and agencies' communication equipment and systems. Plans and coordinates the integration and interconnection of various equipment and systems with the Department of Information Technology-Communications. Plans the development, testing and evaluation of all electrical/electronic and communications equipment. Consults with engineers and manufacturer representatives on technical matters. Formulates and administers agreements made with City and private agencies relative to the maintenance, use and operation of the 700/800 MHz trunked radio system and data gateways.
Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in telecommunications, electronics, information technology, or related field and three years of experience in the planning, development and/or implementation of a radio communications program; or four years of responsible supervisory experience in the maintenance, repair and modification of a radio communications system.
License Requirement:
Possession of an appropriate valid Hawaii State driver's license, as required.
Knowledge of:
Principles of radio communications and electronics; construction and installation of radio and electronic equipment; principles and practices of project management and effective supervision; methods, tools and equipment used in installing, operating, maintaining and repairing radio communications equipment and related systems; Federal Communications Commission and other regulatory agencies, laws, rules and regulations pertaining to radio communications.
