Job Description

Legal / Communications Internship (General Application) - SY 2026-27 The Legal / Communications Intern will provide support to the Legal Department and Communications Department while gaining practical experience in educational law, public administration, public relations, and strategic communications within a public school corporation. The internship is designed to provide students with exposure to legal operations, records management, policy development, communications strategy, and public engagement. The intern will work under the direction of the General Counsel and Communications staff. This format is modeled after the District's current internship postings.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Assist with organization and maintenance of legal and communications files. 2. Support records management, document preparation, and administrative projects. 3. Assist with drafting communications, newsletters, social media content, and informational materials. 4. Conduct basic legal, policy, and regulatory research as assigned. 5. Assist with preparation of Board meeting materials, presentations, and reports. 6. Review and organize public records request materials under supervision. 7. Assist with photography, video, and other communications projects as needed. 8. Support community engagement and district event initiatives. 9. Accompany Legal Department and Communications staff on various assignments and meetings as appropriate. 10. Perform data entry and maintain departmental databases and records. 11. Answer telephones and provide professional customer service. 12. Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Must be a current High School or College Student. 2. Interest in law, public administration, communications, journalism, public relations, political science, education, or a related field. 3. Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills. 4. Strong oral and written communication skills. 5. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information. 6. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and deadlines. 7. Ability to work with constant interruptions while maintaining professionalism. 8. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments with attention to detail. 9. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Gmail, Slides, Sheets, etc.). 10. Experience with graphic design, photography, videography, social media management, or content creation is preferred but not required.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs., sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and use close vision.
