Employment Type Full Time Job Summary Join the City of Olathe as a Communications & Marketing Specialist I and play a key role in sharing the stories, services, and initiatives that matter most to our community. We are seeking a creative and collaborative communications professional who can develop engaging content across digital, social, print, and public-facing platforms while helping strengthen the City's connection with residents and employees. This position will be primarily onsite at City of Olathe offices and municipal buildings, this position will primarily support the efforts of the Quality of Life focus area. Compensation ranges from $54,080 to $74,216 annually, based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, education, experience, and a portfolio review of creative work that aligns with the job description. The Communications & Marketing Specialist I completes assignments related to the communication and marketing needs for their assigned areas of responsibility which may include citywide assignments. They engage and inform citizens and employees by providing strategic, relevant, accurate and timely information about City initiatives, programs, projects and services. This is accomplished through a variety of communication channels including, but not limited to, videography, social media, print media, web content, public relations, and project management. Must be available to work varying hours including evenings and weekends with the ability to regularly monitor social media accounts. The Communications Specialist I is the first level in a two-level career progression of Communications & Marketing Specialist I and II. Key Responsibilities Works collaboratively within the City's Communications & Marketing division to achieve strategic communication and marketing goals; assists in the development and implementation of communication plans and strategies; develops communications through the preparation of press releases, social media, web content, email campaigns, direct mail pieces, brochures, etc.; conceives and develops stories and programming ideas including scheduling, interviewing, writing, recording, and editing stories, PSAs and programs; responds to requests and inquiries from City staff and the general public. Works closely with Digital Communications Specialist to enhance and maintain the City's presence on social media networks, including Facebook, Twitter, etc.; ensures a consistent brand, voice and tone across social media channels; monitors social media traffic and responds with appropriate consultation from City departments. Assists with soliciting funding and sponsorships for assigned responsibilities, working closely with special events staff and other program managers; assists with monitoring and following communication and advertisement budgets. Tracks communication outcomes, including news coverage and online reputation management tools; monitors media and social media tools, trends and applications; develops performance metrics; tracks, compiles, and analyzes social media usage data and other key metrics.
Qualifications Experience:
At least one year of progressively responsible work experience in the field of communications, journalism, public relations, or related field. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of social media and web-based platforms and proven ability to work both independently and within a team structure in a fast-paced environment is also required. Experience in sponsorship solicitation preferred.Education:
A bachelor's degree with major coursework in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, public administration or other related field of study is required. Additional relevant and increasingly more responsible experience may be substituted for degree.Licenses & Certifications:
