Job Description :
Communications Specialist are responsible for answering, processing, prioritizing, and dispatching incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for service. They are an essential part of the First Responders team that receives calls from the public concerning law enforcement, fire, or medical emergencies. The Communications Specialist evaluates the situation and decides which services to utilize by relaying instructions, asking questions, and obtaining pertinent information. This position requires dedicated personnel that have the ability to handle and manage emergency situations, work within a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment, and have the ability to multitask. This position is highly rewarding by providing help to our citizens and visitors when they need help the most. This position is considered Essential and is required to work during natural disasters such as hurricanes or any other events deemed critical.Essential Functions:
Listed functions, duties, responsibilities and skills are not intended to be all-inclusive and the employer reserves the right to assign additional responsibilities as deemed necessary for the operational efficiency of the Sheriff's Office. Perform data entry and retrieval on multiple law enforcement computer systems. Maintain comprehensive current knowledge of all applicable laws/regulations. Maintain strict confidentiality of any and all information obtained through the course of employment. Ability to take appropriate action when presented with a stressful life/death situation. Strong communication skills (verbal and written). Flourish in a Team environment. Assess and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.Special Requirements:
Traverse a flight of stairs, lift a 20 pound box of paper. Due to the potential stressful nature of the position, the candidate will be required to complete and pass a computer based test.The areas of testing are:
Decision making- Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately while responding to emergencies. Call Summarization
