Job Description

Overview The Fletcher School at Tufts University, founded in 1933, is a premier graduate school of global affairs, offering interdisciplinary study, research, and practice of international affairs, law, and business. Emphasizing experiential learning, Fletcher?s impact is exemplified by its global network of more than 11,000 alumni in 148 countries. With a mission to educate leaders and advance solutions through government, business, and civil society, Fletcher works at the intersection of the most complex global challenges in a constantly evolving and interconnected world. Fletcher?s Communications, Public Relations, and Marketing department is responsible for building and promoting Fletcher?s brand, informing and engaging its community, and marketing the school?s offerings. What You'll Do Under minimum supervision, the Senior Communications Specialist develops, designs, and executes strategies that promote the goals and mission of the school.
Essential Functions:
Develops and coordinates high-quality materials and messaging, including researching, writing, scripting, and producing, and directing multimedia production, of effective news and communication pieces to support the school?s efforts to highlight research, thought leadership, scholarship, partnerships, and accomplishments of school faculty, students, and alumni in internal and external communication media across channels. Develops, produces, and manages the schedule of a variety of internal and external e-newsletters, and other publications. Collaborates and strategizes with the media relations consultant for media outreach approaches and topics; tracks media mentions in the press, curates them for social media, and creates social media post text; serves as media relations back up; and hosts and supports in-house media visits in compliance with the university. Leads weekly editorial meeting and manages content calendar, assignments, and schedule. Publishes news, events, and content on websites and digital screens. Tracks, evaluates, and reports on effectiveness of communications strategies and recommends changes to school management. Provides training and updates to staff, students, and faculty. Hires, trains, and manages student employee/s. Independently researches, recommends, and implements internal and external communications projects and strategies. Guides, procures, and directs outside vendors on projects.
What We're Looking For Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by: Bachelor?s degree in related area of study 5+ years of communications experience Knowledge of and interest in international affairs Solid editorial writing and editing skills Experience in or ability to learn basic capabilities of design, layout, and database tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Mailchimp, Agility PR database, and Drupal website publishing Applies knowledge and ensures compliance with university and industry standards for security, privacy, and accessibility
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in education or non-profit setting preferred Professional demeanor and comfortable interviewing executives or high-level government officials Organization, attention to detail, and teamwork skills Ability to work outside of standard business hours for events or subject interviews/media support as needed Media relations background a plus Pay Range Minimum $72,500.00, Midpoint $90,700.00, Maximum $108,900.00 Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
