The Communications Specialist is a creative storyteller responsible for capturing the "District Story" through high-quality video, photography and graphic design. This role is responsible for the end-to-end production of multimedia content that supports the district's strategic communications, including social media, website management and digital marketing while also connecting with student voice.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Video Production, Graphic Design or a related field preferred. Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) or similar creative development tools. Proficiency with professional video and photography equipment and experience with Web Content Management Systems (CMS). Experience in Tri-caster live video production systems and digital playback systems preferred. Familiarity with Google Suite, Canva and social media scheduling/analytics tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a meticulous eye for quality and consistency. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines concurrently. Collaborative "can-do" attitude with the ability to work independently and incorporate feedback effectively. Demonstrated enthusiasm for participating in professional development and a willingness to master new technical and accessibility standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, film and edit professional video content and multi-camera studio productions for marketing, classroom highlights, social media, Channel 22 public access television, podcasts and live broadcasts. Manage the district's Educational Access Channel and digital playback systems while ensuring high-quality sound, lighting and technical standards for all multimedia productions. Troubleshoot video signal and streaming quality issues to ensure consistent broadcast and digital delivery. Assist with disseminating district information, both routine and emergent, through ParentSqaure communications platform. Maintain familiarity with and a willingness to master pending full ADA (WCAG 2.0) accessibility compliance standards for all digital (video, website, social media) content. Serve as the primary photographer and videographer for district events and Board of Education meetings. Partner with students and staff to produce authentic, student-led content that amplifies student voice and highlights district success. Create visually appealing graphics for both print and digital purposes, including social media, newsletters and department presentations, flyers, brochures, banners and advertisements. Apply and maintain district brand identity across all platforms, including signage, templates and promotional merchandise. Create and program digital signage, with a preference for experience in systems like Daktronics. Update and maintain website content regularly, ensuring accuracy and full ADA (WCAG 2.0) accessibility compliance. Actively stay attuned to evolving digital marketing trends, social media algorithm changes and emerging communication tools to keep district content fresh. Maintain and organize a digital library of photos and video assets for districtwide use. Must be able to travel between district buildings requiring personal transportation. Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekend events. Comply with all policies and procedures of the Reflect and carry out the core values of Waterford School District.
