DESCRIPTION
As the Junior Communications Specialist, you help SPO bring the mission to life through clear, compelling, and mission-centered communication. You'll write and edit copy for a variety of audiences and channels, flexing your writing voice across formats, audiences, and tones with agility and creativity. You'll support internal messaging, PR, and storytelling that highlight what God is doing across SPO, ensuring every message reflects our charism values, brand voice, and purpose. As part of a collaborative, fast-moving marketing team, you'll contribute to campaigns, projects, and organizational initiatives that strengthen SPO's presence and impact. This role offers hands-on experience in copywriting, communications strategy, media relations, and integrated storytelling while growing in both professional skill and missionary identity.

Responsibilities Internal Communications Help plan and execute internal communications that build clarity, alignment, and unity across departments. Draft internal newsletters, updates, and staff announcements. Create and support internal presentations, memos, or reports for key initiatives and leadership updates. Public Relations and External Communications Support the Director of Marketing in developing and executing SPO's public relations strategy. Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and organizational announcements. Assist in preparing key messaging, talking points, and presentations for leadership and public appearances. Coordinate logistics and materials for conferences, events, and booths that represent SPO's brand and mission. Maintain media contact lists and support proactive media outreach efforts. Monitor public mentions of SPO and assist in preparing appropriate responses. Copywriting and Editing Write and edit content for newsletters, emails, websites, fundraising campaigns, and other materials as needed. Copyedit and proofread marketing materials to ensure accuracy, tone, and brand alignment. Ensure all communication and creative work aligns with SPO's Brand Guidelines, especially messaging style and voice. Collaborate with designers, social media, and creative staff to develop strong, unified content. Assist in creating compelling headlines, taglines, and narratives that bring SPO's mission to life. Collaborate with other marketing roles and cross-departmental partners to support shared goals and ensure alignment across projects. Storytelling and Testimony Gathering Collaborate with the field to collect student and Missionary stories, quotes, and testimonies that illustrate SPO's impact. Conduct short interviews or written summaries to help translate real stories into communication materials. Partner with the marketing team to identify the best channels and formats to share these stories effectively. Personal Fundraising (Mission Partner Development) Introduce potential donors to SPO and invite them into financial partnership in support of your salary and the mission of SPO Build relationships with MPD donors and witness to them through regular communication, including newsletters and other updates Connect MPD donors to the broader SPO mission through invitation to events and other opportunities for partnership
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to grammar, clarity, and tone. Familiarity with AP style or ability to learn and implement quickly. Experience or familiarity with writing for multiple formats, including press releases, newsletters, and web content. Proficiency in Google Workspace; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.. Comfort using Canva or similar tools to support basic visual communication. Familiarity with email marketing platforms (such as Mailchimp or Brevo). Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Flexible, proactive, and adaptable, with a positive approach to problem-solving. Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality. Self-starter with a desire to learn, take initiative, and grow in the role. Commitment to excellence and continuous improvement with an eagerness to learn. Passionate about evangelization and discipleship.
