Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Marketing & Communications Specialist to elevate our brand presence across multiple channels and engage our target audiences effectively. This role offers an exciting opportunity to craft compelling content, execute strategic marketing campaigns, and leverage digital tools to drive growth. The ideal candidate will be passionate about storytelling, data-driven marketing, and creating impactful communications that resonate with diverse audiences.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing & Communications Specialist provides leadership, guidance, and creative direction in promoting the YMCA's mission, programs, and community impact. This position implements and oversees all marketing, public relations, and communication strategies for membership, programs, philanthropy, and events. The Marketing & Communications Specialist ensures that all YMCA communication and branding align with Y-USA standards and local association goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Marketing & Brand Strategy:
Implement a comprehensive marketing plan to promote YMCA programs, services, and community initiatives. Maintain and strengthen the Y's visual identity and messaging consistency across all platforms. Coordinate and support annual campaigns, special events, and membership initiatives. Work collaboratively with department directors to align marketing goals with association priorities.
Communications & Public Relations:
Serve as a contact for internal and external communications. Create and distribute press releases, newsletters, and public announcements. Build and maintain strong relationships with local media, community partners, and vendors. Ensure timely and accurate communication of YMCA programs, stories, and impact to the community.
Digital Media & Web Management:
Serve as Webmaster and eCommunications lead, maintaining up-to-date, engaging website content. Manage all digital properties (web, email, social, mobile) to coordinate with YMCA campaigns and initiatives. Develop digital strategies using analytics to drive engagement, retention, and brand awareness. Stay current with emerging digital marketing trends and tools to enhance outreach.
Creative Design & Content Development:
Review and approve all YMCA promotional materials including flyers, signage, and social media posts. Produce visually appealing and mission-aligned marketing materials using Canva, InDesign, and related software. Capture and communicate the YMCA story through compelling writing, photography, and graphic design. Ensure all materials meet Y-USA brand standards and reflect the culture and mission of the YMCA.
Data, Analytics & Reporting:
Track marketing effectiveness and engagement across digital platforms. Provide regular reports and insights to leadership on communication reach and impact. Use data to inform decision-making, measure growth, and identify opportunities for improvement. Translate analytics into actionable strategies for outreach and engagement.
Collaboration & Team Support:
Partner with staff and volunteers to strengthen the YMCA's voice and mission. Train and support staff in effective communication and marketing tools. Support association-wide initiatives, including philanthropy, special events, and membership campaigns. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
Professional Development & Leadership:
Maintain current knowledge of marketing and communication trends within the nonprofit sector. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and conferences as required. Serve as a YMCA Brand Advocate, ensuring all staff and materials reflect the organization's values and voice. Contribute to a positive and collaborative work culture that supports the YMCA mission.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods. Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively. Must be able to use computers, phones, and standard office equipment. May be required to work evenings or weekends to support YMCA events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in Marketing, Communications desired, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum two years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe InDesign, WordPress, and Google Analytics. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with high attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively. Must successfully pass a background check.
Pay:
$18.00 - $24.00 per hour
