Markets' advocacy is focused on a financial system that creates wealth for the many rather than extracting wealth for the few. Our advocacy work serves as an important counterweight to the financial industry and its allies that too often seek to put their interests above the public interest. We are seeking a communication intern(s) to support its busy communications office. The candidate should be a current junior, senior, or recently graduated undergraduate student with interest in financial reform, with proven written and oral communications abilities, plus great digital and social media skills. This is a great opportunity to learn about important policy issues, effective communications and public relations strategies. The Communications Intern will report to the Communications Director.
Responsibilities :
Design social media, website, and report graphics. Draft original content, including blog posts, press releases, newsletter, and factsheets Maintain Better Markets social networking sites (including Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube) Update the Better Markets website, including video and audio files postings Perform media research, identify media opportunities and support press engagement Monitor press appearances on TV, print and online outlets Maintain media and coverage databases Perform other duties assigned by
Communications Director Qualifications :
Initiative, good attitude and willingness to learn Excellent written and verbal communication skills AP Style knowledge Proficient in web-based technology, experience with web design a plus Excellent research skills Knowledge of and enthusiasm for social networking Ability to work under tight deadlines Ability to handle assigned tasks efficiently Familiarity with basics of financial reform a plus Prior experience in a press office or agency useful but not required Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Canva is a major plus. Salary $17.95 an hour, with a minimum requirement of 20 hours per week. In addition, academic credit provided if applicable. Location Better Markets' office is located in downtown Washington, DC, conveniently close to the Blue, Silver, and Orange line stations at Foggy Bottom and Farragut North. This position is hybrid, offering both in-office and work-from-home opportunities, but this position requires the successful candidate to be based in the DC area.
