Compensation:
Salaried $60,000 to $70,000, Commensurate with demonstrated skills, professional qualifications, and experience.

Position Description:
The Communications Specialist supports the development and implementation of the organization's communication and marketing efforts, with a focus on increasing visibility and engagement within the city and broader community. Working under the direction of leadership, this role helps execute communication strategies, ensure consistent messaging across platforms, and coordinate marketing activities, including management of social media accounts, websites, and other marketing efforts and promotional products of the organization. This position plays a key role in content creation, brand management, and day-to-day coordination with vendors, service providers, businesses, developers, entrepreneurs, media, other stakeholders and external partners. The position is responsible for delivering exceptional client services,administering certain programs, and tracking and reporting on key strategic metrics for internal and external purposes. The ideal candidate will be outgoing and friendly, able to communicate and work with all types of people and situations, and willing to learn. Success in this position requires a strong sense of commitment, a deep understanding of fairness, access, inclusion, and representation, a willingness to learn, and the desire to help people, the community, and businesses in Lansing.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Assist in managing the organization's public image, ensuring consistent messaging, tone, and brand across all communication channels. Support the development and execution of communication strategies and procedures aligned with organizational priorities. Develop and distribute communication materials of the organization and affiliated entities including social media content, digital and print media, website content, press releases and announcements, and event and program collateral. Coordinate stakeholder reporting efforts for the organization, including project and program profiles and publication of annual impact reports. Identify opportunities to promote organizational initiatives, programs, and impact stories. Coordinate marketing efforts across internal teams and external partners. Support partner communications to maximize visibility and engagement. Assist in coordinating sponsorship opportunities and ensuring deliverables are executed. Create visually engaging materials using Canva, Adobe, or similar tools. Develop and maintain brand templates and ensure consistency across all materials. Maintain a communications and content calendar aligned with organizational priorities. Track basic performance metrics including engagement and reach of efforts. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field of study preferred, but not required. Knowledge and understanding of basic concepts and techniques of economic development. Valid driver's license and the use of a personal vehicle for work purposes.
Skills Necessary:
Ability to work under pressure, manage a large workload, and meet deadlines. Experience in creating and managing effective social media and other digital media content, plus the ability to perform web content updates and website updates and management. Possess strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; able to communicate with a broad and diverse audience of all levels. Possess a good working knowledge of researching on the internet and proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus graphic design, document design, and report-generating software. Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment. Demonstrate a high level of self-direction and strong desire to achieve high-level results. Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information. •Examples of work samples: Visual representations of the candidate's skills and experience in areas relevant to the position, such as website design and content management, photography, video creation and editing, brochures and other marketing materials, social media, creation and implementation of marketing and communications plans, surveys, event planning and management, public relations, etc. All information received is held in the highest confidence.
