  • 5/11/2026 The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a Region Communications Specialist (Information Specialist IV) to support situation awareness and coordination of transportation impacts within Region Two.
The position serves as a key point of coordination for regional operation impacts including lane closures, construction activities, permits, and maintenance work. The role helps ensure regional leadership and communications teams have accurate and timely information about transportation impacts. As the Region's Communication Specialist, you will work closely with region leadership, the region traffic engineer, project teams, permits, maintenance, and the Traffic Operations Center (TOC) to identify and verify roadway impact and ensure that impact information is accurately reflected in internal and external systems. Key Responsibilities Regional Coordination & Situational Awareness Maintain awareness of roadway impacts across the region including: Serve as a regional point of contact for leadership and communications staff seeking information about roadway impacts or lane closures. Coordinate with region teams to confirm the cause, duration, and expected impacts of roadway closures or restrictions. Develop working relationships with region traffic engineers, project managers, maintenance supervisors, and permit coordinators to support information sharing. Planned Impacts Coordination Coordinate with project teams and consultants to ensure planned impacts are accurately entered, maintained, and updated in the one.network platform. Review planned impact information for accuracy and completeness. Work with project teams to correct or update impact information when needed. Help ensure roadway impacts are identified early and documented appropriately. Coordination with TOC & Communications Coordinate with the TOC and communications staff to ensure awareness of planned regional impacts. Provide verified information about regional closures or impacts when requested by leadership or communications teams. Support internal coordination during incidents or events affecting planned roadway work. Internal Information Support Assist region leadership in understanding transportation impacts occurring within the region. Provide information and clarification when questions arise regarding lane closures, project impacts, or roadway restrictions. Coordinate with appropriate teams to resolve discrepancies in impact information. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve coordination and information flow between regional teams. Support consistent practices for documenting roadway impacts and closures. Provide feedback to leadership on process improvements that could improve regional awareness and coordination. Qualifications Core skills and experience for this role include: A Bachelor's degree in communications, public administration, transportation, or a related field or equivalent experience. Experience in software programs such as: PowerPoint, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to coordinate across multiple teams and disciplines. Strong interpersonal and coordination skills. Ability to gather and verify information from multiple sources. Comfort working with transportation project teams, engineers, and operations staff. Strong attention to detail and ability to track changing roadway conditions. Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences. Preferred Experience Preference may be given to candidates with experience in: Transportation or infrastructure projects Construction Coordination Transportation Operations Data or platform management systems such as mapping or impact tracking tools Cross-team coordination roles About the Role Location
