Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Operates radio, telephone, or computer equipment at Tribal Communications Center and relays information to emergency response personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receives and responds to routine and emergency calls for service; dispatches the appropriate Law Enforcement or Fire unit by means of radio or telecommunications equipment; Records details of calls, dispatches, and messages; Obtains, interprets, classifies, and prioritizes pertinent information for emergency and non-emergency calls, regarding complaints, reports, and inquiries from the general public Provides information to law enforcement and fire personnel expeditiously; Operates various types of office equipment and the Texas and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS/NLETS); Responsible for tracking and maintaining TCOLE training; Updates computer systems with appropriate data; Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or its equivalent general education degree (GED); must be at least 18 years of age and a US Citizen; TCOLE Telecommunications Operator License; One (1) year experience in public safety communications or any equivalent combination of experience and training in public safety communications; must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and be insurable; must successfully pass a post-offer drug screening and criminal history background investigation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Must possess effective interpersonal communication skills; ability to operate computer equipment; ability to effectively organize office operations and filing systems; knowledge or ability to learn local area streets, parks, major landmarks and Pueblo limits; knowledge of radio communications operation and techniques; English grammar, punctuation and spelling; ability to attain Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Telecommunicator License and Basic Telecommunicator Certification; knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems; ability to effectively operate a radio communications device; Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications such as Word; Excel; Outlook; PowerPoint; ability to promote a good and harmonious working environment; ability to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays; ability to read and interpret operating instructions; policy and procedures; ability to Understand and execute oral and written instructions; ability to use common sense; think logically and act quickly; ability to work effectively under stressful working conditions; ability to use courtesy and tact when dealing with the public; ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with co-workers within the organization; ability to maintain confidentiality of information at all times; ability to speak clearly and effectively in English and Spanish.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, stand and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to life up to 50 pounds. The vision requirements include; close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
