Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Content Strategist to support the NYC Digital Service team in transforming how New Yorkers interact with city services. This role focuses on creating clear, accessible, and user-centered digital experiences for NYC.gov, helping translate complex government information into plain, actionable content. This is a high-impact opportunity to contribute to a major public-facing digital transformation initiative.
Work Details Location:
Hybrid (3 days onsite at 2 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY; 2 days remote)
Schedule:
Monday Friday, 35 hours per week
Duration:
12 Months Role Overview As a Content Strategist, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, subject matter experts, and stakeholders across NYC agencies to design and deliver guided digital experiences. You will combine strong writing, research, and analytical skills to create content that is both user-friendly and compliant with NYC standards. Key Responsibilities Develop content strategies, requirements, and structured outlines for guided user experiences on NYC.gov Write clear, compelling, plain-language web content aligned with NYC content style guidelines Collaborate with subject matter experts to simplify complex policies, laws, and processes Conduct content audits and maintain inventories of existing digital features and content Analyze user behavior using Google Analytics to inform content decisions Perform in-depth research on city regulations, policies, and services Deliver high-quality content within tight deadlines Conduct quality assurance reviews and provide feedback across content workstreams Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for content effectiveness Required Qualifications 8+ years of experience as a Content Strategist, Editorial Strategist, Information Architect, or similar role Strong copywriting portfolio demonstrating ability to simplify complex information Experience writing and adhering to established style guides Strong research and analytical skills Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders and lead discussions Solid project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently Working knowledge of Google Analytics (ability to generate and interpret reports) Experience using user research to guide content strategy and decisions Preferred Qualifications Bachelor s degree in Journalism, Communications, Creative Writing, Digital Media, or related field Experience working in government, public sector, higher education, or non-profit environments Expertise in writing for plain language (ideally at or below a 7th-grade reading level) Experience with modern Content Management Systems (CMS) Familiarity with complex approval processes involving legal, policy, and executive stakeholders Understanding of New York City communities and how residents engage with city services
