Our team combines horticultural knowledge, e-commerce experience, careful sourcing, and customer-focused service to make buying plants online easier and more reliable for gardeners nationwide. Garden Goods Direct is seeking an E-Commerce Operations Trainee to join our growing online garden center team. This position is designed for someone with some nursery, garden center, horticulture, or plant-related experience who wants to learn how an e-commerce nursery operates from the ground up. The E-Commerce Operations Trainee will work closely with our operations, shipping, inventory, customer service, merchandising, and purchasing teams to support daily order flow, product availability, sourcing, vendor coordination, and fulfillment. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, detail-oriented person who understands plants and wants to build a career in e-commerce operations, nursery management, purchasing, logistics, or merchandising. Responsibilities Assist with daily e-commerce order flow, fulfillment tracking, and operational coordination. Assist with Content creation such as product pages and media postings. Learn how online orders move from purchase to picking, packing, shipping, and customer delivery. Support inventory accuracy by helping monitor product availability, stock issues, substitutions, and order exceptions. Assist with sourcing and purchasing plants, hard goods, and other products for the online store. Communicate with vendors and growers as needed to check availability, pricing, lead times, and product quality. Help identify new product opportunities based on customer demand, seasonal trends, sales performance, and inventory gaps. Support the merchandising team with product listings, product information, availability updates, and online assortment planning. Work with the shipping team to help identify delays, carrier issues, damaged shipments, and fulfillment bottlenecks. Assist customer service and operations teams with resolving order-related concerns. Help update product, inventory, purchasing, and order information in company systems. Support seasonal planning, product movement, and workflow organization during peak shipping periods. Learn basic reporting related to orders, shipping performance, inventory, product availability, and operational efficiency. Communicate professionally with internal team members to keep orders moving and issues resolved. Take on additional projects as assigned to support business growth and operational improvement. Qualifications Some nursery, garden center, greenhouse, landscape, horticulture, or plant retail experience preferred. Basic plant knowledge, including familiarity with trees, shrubs, perennials, houseplants, or seasonal garden products. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn. Comfortable working with computers, spreadsheets, and online business systems. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to stay organized while managing multiple tasks. Positive attitude and willingness to work in a hands-on, fast-moving environment. Interest in e-commerce, purchasing, inventory management, logistics, customer service, or merchandising. Previous experience with plant product sourcing, vendor communication, retail inventory, and purchasing is helpful. Must be dependable, coachable, and able to work well as part of a team.
