Job Description

The Marketing Fellow is a full-time position for a student who will receive an undergraduate degree from UVA in Spring 2026 or a person who has recently received an UVA undergraduate degree. As a staff member, the Marketing Fellow works on initiatives related to the department's current priorities while carrying out other essential duties. This fellowship primarily focuses on core functional areas described below while offering opportunities to gain exposure to additional areas such as facilities, programs, business services and administration. The Marketing Fellow will be comfortable developing reports and presentations for leadership and managing complex projects with stakeholders to deliver impact against key priorities. The Marketing Fellow will be a team player who is comfortable working with ambiguity and demonstrating flexibility and independence. This position is a limited term with an anticipated start date during Summer 2026. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Duties will vary based on functional assignments and departmental priorities, but may include the following: Marketing & Communications
  • Assist in the development and execution of integrated marketing and communications strategies promoting programs, services and events
  • Support the social media marketing team with content planning, creation and performance tracking across platforms
  • Contribute to brand storytelling that highlights student experiences, wellbeing and community impact
  • Support brand management and visual identity standards
  • Analyze marketing performance metrics and provide recommendations Advancement & External Relations
  • Support donor engagement efforts, including communications, events and stewardship activities
  • Assist in the development of impact stories, reports and fundraising materials
  • Analyze and segment a database of potential donors and supporters
  • Identify opportunities for targeted outreach and engagement strategies
  • Assist in building foundational processes for donor cultivation and stewardship
  • Collaborate on messaging and campaigns that align recreation's impact with philanthropic priorities Other Duties as Assigned

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred from UVA with recent demonstrated knowledge of the culture within the University of Virginia)
  • 1 year of relevant experience Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proven ability to clearly articulate information in multiple forums to a broad array of stakeholders
  • Excellent operational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Demonstrated interest in higher education, campus recreation, wellness or related fields
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to take initiative by thinking proactively about team needs
  • Strong belief in the University's mission and motivation to make impact Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
