Responsible for providing marketing and public relations support for the council's fundraising campaigns and initiatives. Provides communications counsel to senior management, helping to enhance the organization's image. Develops and helps to implement the public relations and overall media relations plans for the council. Manages/supports several Council-level events including the Volunteer Recognition Dinner, Distinguished Citizen Award events, Golf Tournaments, fundraising campaigns and events with area sports teams and other cultural institutions. Supports the efforts of the Council's Marketing, Membership and Fundraising Committees.
Primary focus:
30% promotion of council, brand and public awareness 20% fundraising campaign support 20% event and activity promotion and support 10% membership growth and retention 10% camp promotion 10% other marketing support
Responsibilities:
Marketing plan
  • develops an annual marketing plan that prioritizes objectives, strategies, and tactics and that delivers specific measurable outcomes. Brand management
  • aligns council marketing and communications with national brand standards, leveraging Scouting America's and local council campaigns and related assets. Fundraising support
  • provides leadership and support for fundraising events and campaigns. Membership support
  • provides marketing support for the membership function year-round. Website
  • assists in maintaining the council website ensuring it is professional, aesthetically pleasing, aligned with brand standards, and promotes Scouting America, the council, and its activities. Ensures content engages youth and adults by including promotional images, videos, and persuasive copy. Volunteers
  • helps build and serve as staff support for council marketing, membership and fundraising committees bringing the knowledge, connections, and skillset necessary for success. Staff
  • assists staff members in developing professional, brand-aligned communication materials. Social media
  • creates a fresh, strong, and constantly updated council presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other popular social media platforms, utilizing a blend of organic and promoted social media posts. Newsletter
  • creates and publishes council newsletters. Proactive publicity
  • identifies and implements events and other initiatives that can generate significant positive publicity for the Council.
Develops and maintains strong relationships with local and regional media. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field from an accredited college or university. 3-5+ years' experience in marketing or public relations roles. Required Skills Written communication (collateral material, press releases, publications, and speech writing) Content creation and story-telling ability Public and media relations (including building and maintaining relationships with media personnel) Successful fundraising support experience Event planning and management Graphic design, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) Expertise with social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn, and competence in designing, placing, and measuring targeted promotional campaigns Out-of-the-box thinking Quick at finding the marketing/communication angle that will work Strong interpersonal skills Ability to self-motivate and manage multiple projects simultaneously Project management experience is a must Prior knowledge/understanding of Scouting America programs is helpful but not required.
