JOB SUMMARY
The Market Supervisor is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the market; including food and beverage, sanitation, profitability, tourism, external events, and promotion of all Taste New York events. Your main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting hourly market staff members, validating market standards are adhered to on a shift basis, maximizing sales, visitor counts and satisfaction, and cash flow within the boundaries established and approved by NYK Board of Directors.
Responsibilities Leadership:
Portray qualities of being a professional leader; including confidence, intelligence, respectfulness, preparedness, being visible and available, active with community organizations, and being held accountable for the results produced by your subordinates
  • Be proactive in: o Communication at all levels, both inside and outside the market, with the sole intent on producing additional top line sales and bottom-line profits o Training staff members in their positions o Assisting your subordinates so they produce the desired operational and financial results as outlined in their respective position descriptions
  • Be enthusiastic in: o Promoting the market to all individuals o Marketing yourself, your team, and the market itself to the general public with the sole intent on providing a solution to their hospitality and food and beverage needs all while promoting the Taste New York campaign
Financial:
o Assist in overseeing daily financial transactions o Safeguarding of cash and inventory o Reporting of inventory waste, damage, and/or theft o Depositing cash to the bank
Operational:
Validating that each staff member is properly trained in, and adheres to, the market's policies, procedures, standards, attendance, and professional communication on a daily basis
  • Compliance and safety
  • assist in o Maintaining compliance in food safety, alcohol service training, sanitation, and creation of a safe work environment o Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements, staff members and visitors o Correcting any state or local health department violations o Disposing of any out-of-date food products in accordance with state and local health codes o Following proper receiving and storage practices of product and supplies o Reporting any visitor and/or equipment safety related issues in the market o Overseeing cleanliness of market and equipment • Taste New York visitor experience o Ensure that all guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly, and courteous service, always o Develop and maintain high-quality customer service skills o Training staff and volunteers in New York State tourism and industry related topics so they may share that information with visitors and validate the same o Ensuring staff members are answering visitor questions and providing a positive experience o Validating that staff members are properly trained in the use and operation of the market equipment and point of sale system o Directing staff members to properly maintain market equipment through preventative maintenance, energy conservation, repairs, security measures and that safety and sanitation requirements are met; and report any issues and/or problems involving equipment o Assisting in weekly physical inventory count and any supplier issues affecting the market operations o Promote excellent standards of safety and cleanliness, ensuring all counters, work areas throughout the Welcome Center are clean, tidy, and hygienic o Regularly perform temperature checks, report any variances to management, and ensure corrective action takes place, if necessary o Take orders, prepare food and beverage items, while being attentive to visitor requests o Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the menu, ingredients, and assembling food items o Assist other staff members to complete opening, closing, prep list, freeze pull lists, and cleaning lists o Operate Point-of-Sale (cash register) system by processing payments while adhering to cash procedures o Performs other duties or roles as assigned by management
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum one (1) year in the retail field
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
CERTIFICATIONS
  • Obtain and maintain a current Training for Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) Certification throughout employment
  • Obtain and maintain a current ServSafe Certification
  • Obtain and maintain any other relevant certifications
