Job Description

The Marketing and Publicity Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategic marketing and publicity initiatives and leading the marketing team to promote our diverse catalog of books to our readers and partners. This role requires a dynamic individual with a creative mindset, strong leadership skills, and an understanding of the publishing industry. This is a full-time position with remote work possible, with a minimum of three days per week required in office at our Atglen, PA headquarters.
Role and Responsibilities Strategic Planning:
Develop and execute comprehensive trade and special markets (B2B) and consumer-focused (B2C) strategies that align with the company, imprints, and publication goals and enhance the visibility of our publications. Utilize tools and technologies, including AI, for greatest efficiency and quality of marketing engagement.
Budget Management:
Oversee departmental budgets for marketing and publicist spend, advertising, marketing co-op, subscriptions, trade shows, and all related activities and relationships.
Campaign Management:
Lead the planning and execution of integrated marketing and publicity campaigns across various channels, including digital marketing, social media, email, advertising, and traditional media.
Author Engagement:
Develop strategies for efficient author care and leverage author platforms effectively in marketing and publicity campaigns.
Title Marketing:
Develop title marketing plans across imprints with the team, including leveling of titles, positioning, and execution oversight. Ensure relevance and alignment with consumer audience growth and engagement goals.
Consumer Advertising:
Manage consumer advertising on Amazon, Meta, and Google. Drive list acquisition and growth through strategic partnerships, advertising campaigns, and content marketing.
Email Marketing:
Manage and develop the email marketing programs for B2B and B2C engagement, list segmentation, growth, and interaction.
Media Relations:
Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure coverage and reviews for our books.
Data-Driven Decision Making:
Utilize consumer data, engagement metrics, and retail analytics to inform decisions about frontlist and backlist promotions.
Marketing Collateral:
Oversee and direct the creation of on-brand, customer-facing marketing collateral, including digital design assets, postcards, social graphics, ads, A+ content, catalogs, and flyers.
Data and Discoverability:
Optimize ONIX and title-related data, keywords, and metadata to support positioning and discoverability.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Work closely with Sales and Editorial teams to ensure cohesive and impactful campaigns. Provide feedback to acquisitions, editorial, and sales on title and imprint positioning.
Team Leadership:
Manage and mentor a team of 4-5 marketing and publicity professionals and freelancers, providing guidance, support, and fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
Event Coordination:
Plan and execute trade shows, promotional events, and author engagements to enhance book visibility and connect with target audiences. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor's Degree Minimum 5+ years of book marketing experience Skills Strong leadership and team motivation skills, coupled with strategic thinking and creativity in marketing initiatives. In-depth knowledge of consumer and retail advertising on Amazon and Meta is essential. Proficiency in data and analytics; ability to leverage data as a crucial decision-making tool. Confident decision-maker, capable of acting independently or with minimal feedback. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to constructively level-set expectations. Understanding of ROI and KPI metrics for informed project and resource allocation. Sense of humor and ability to maintain a positive work environment while staying focused on tasks.
