The Impact You'll Make in this Role The Senior Director of Marketing serves as a strategic leader within the Marketing Department and is responsible for overseeing the development, execution, and performance of all integrated marketing initiatives for San Antonio Zoo and affiliated entities. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing/Chief Marketing Officer, this role provides high-level leadership and direction across brand strategy, digital marketing, advertising, media relations, promotions, guest engagement campaigns, and revenue-driving initiatives. The Senior Director of Marketing partners closely with executive leadership and cross-functional departments to ensure organizational goals are supported through innovative, data-driven, and mission-focused marketing strategies. This position plays a critical role in shaping the public image of the organization, increasing attendance and revenue, strengthening community engagement, and advancing the San Antonio Zoo's mission through compelling storytelling and strategic brand management. This role oversees marketing leadership staff, external agencies, vendors, consultants, and strategic partnerships while fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and creative team culture. As a Senior Director of Marketing, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive annual and long-range marketing strategies that support attendance, membership, admissions, events, conservation awareness, fundraising initiatives, and overall organizational growth. Oversee all integrated marketing efforts including digital marketing, traditional advertising, social media strategy, brand management, media buying, campaign analytics, public-facing promotions, and content development. Serve as a senior strategic advisor to executive leadership regarding marketing trends, audience engagement, consumer insights, and revenue opportunities. Direct the creation and implementation of multi-channel marketing campaigns designed to drive guest engagement, visitation, earned revenue, memberships, and donor support. Establish measurable marketing KPIs and evaluate campaign effectiveness through analytics, reporting, market research, and consumer behavior analysis. Lead organizational brand strategy and ensure consistency across all communication channels, collateral, events, signage, digital assets, advertising, and public-facing experiences. Oversee annual marketing budgets, forecasting, vendor negotiations, media placements, and financial performance metrics while ensuring fiscal responsibility and ROI optimization. Collaborate with internal departments including Development, Education, Guest Experience, Operations, Animal Care, Events, and Executive Leadership to align marketing initiatives with organizational priorities. Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships, sponsorship opportunities, tourism collaborations, and community engagement initiatives that enhance visibility and support organizational objectives. Provide leadership and oversight for agency relationships, creative consultants, photographers, videographers, freelancers, and media partners. Drive innovation by identifying emerging marketing technologies, digital platforms, audience trends, and creative opportunities to strengthen brand positioning and engagement. Develop crisis communication support strategies in coordination with executive leadership and public relations personnel when necessary. Lead, mentor, coach, and develop marketing leadership and staff through performance management, professional development, succession planning, and collaborative leadership practices. Oversee staffing plans, recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, goal setting, workload delegation, and performance evaluations for the marketing team. Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and service excellence throughout the department. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, branding standards, legal requirements, and ethical communication practices. Uphold all company policies as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct. Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive marketing experience with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles overseeing integrated marketing functions. Proven experience leading high-performing marketing teams within attractions, tourism, hospitality, entertainment, nonprofit, or related industries preferred. Strong strategic planning, organizational leadership, and project management experience. Demonstrated success in developing and executing large-scale integrated marketing campaigns with measurable results. Extensive knowledge of digital marketing, paid media strategy, social media advertising, analytics platforms, SEO/SEM, audience segmentation, and brand development. Experience managing substantial operating budgets and negotiating vendor and media contracts. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market research, campaign performance metrics, and consumer insights to drive decision-making. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization. Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence, inspire, mentor, and develop teams. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and marketing analytics/reporting tools. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, CRM platforms, email marketing systems, and content management systems preferred. Responsible for completion of all required training curricula by assigned deadlines. This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or a valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 45 days of employment. Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check. Must be able to work in varying climate and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold). Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as operational needs require.
