Job Description

Product Specialist / Project Manager About Tool-Smith Tool-Smith provides torque and material handling solutions to manufacturing plants. The company's Assembly Solutions offering includes fastening tools, multi-spindle and fixtured systems, lift assists, hoists, balancers, cranes, and related support services such as calibration, service, engineering, installation, and training. Position Overview The Product Specialist is a field-based sales support role responsible for visiting customer sites, evaluating applications, developing detailed specifications for fastening and ergonomic lifting solutions, and managing projects from start to finish. This person works closely with the sales team to identify customer needs, define applications, and hand off complete field information to engineering for design work when custom or engineered solutions are required. Key Responsibilities
  • Program DC electric and other torque controlled fastening tools.
  • Provide technical assistance to sales team and customers.
  • Manage projects through concept, design, procurement, manufacturing and delivery stages. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize activities.
  • Visit customer facilities to gather field data and evaluate fastening and lift-assist applications in production and assembly environments.
  • Develop clear application specifications and supporting documentation, including notes, photos, sketches, and relevant site measurements, for quotation and engineering review.
  • Recommend appropriate product categories for the application, including DC electric fastening tools, pulse tools, audit equipment, hoists, balancers, light rail systems, bridge cranes, jib cranes, and custom handling devices.
  • Serve as the technical sales support contact during the early stages of an opportunity, helping customers and the sales team align on application requirements.
  • Transfer complete and accurate application packages to engineering for design and configuration when standard products are not sufficient.
  • Support customer meetings, product demonstrations, and follow-up discussions tied to fastening and lift-assist opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to help ensure the proposed solution can be installed and supported effectively.
  • Maintain organized records of field visits, project details, and open opportunities.
  • Enter quotes, orders and purchase orders into computer system. Qualifications
  • Technical background in industrial products, manufacturing, assembly processes, or a related field.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand fastening applications, torque requirements, and ergonomic lifting needs.
  • Strong computer skills for office applications and programming fastening tools.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to turn field observations into usable specifications for sales and engineering teams.
  • Ability to work independently, manage travel, and build credibility with plant personnel, engineers, maintenance teams, and production leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight 3 to 4 nights per week. Preferred Background
  • Experience with torque-controlled fastening systems, assembly tools, or material handling equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with automotive, tier supplier, appliance, or general industrial manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 2+ years experience working in manufacturing (preferred)
  • Engineering Degree (preferred)
  • Recent college graduates will be considered with some industrial experience

Pay:
$60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
