Why This Role Matters The Field Team Lead plays a critical role in strengthening community power across Arizona. By developing, supporting, and inspiring canvass teams, this role ensures voters—especially those from historically excluded communities—receive accurate information, meaningful engagement, and opportunities to participate in civic life. Your leadership directly impacts turnout, builds long-term organizing capacity, and helps advance campaigns rooted in equity, justice, and collective liberation. Position Overview The Field Team Lead supports, mentors, and cultivates a team of approximately 10 canvassers every day. This role focuses on people leadership , operational excellence , and strategic execution . Field Team Leads work closely with Regional Field Leads to ensure canvassing goals are met, teams feel supported, and community engagement remains high-quality and culturally grounded. This position combines relationship-building, coaching, adaptability, and data-informed decision-making. It requires comfort working in dynamic field environments—indoors and outdoors, across varied weather conditions—and frequent travel within the assigned region. Key Outcomes for Success A successful Field Team Lead consistently: Builds and sustains a high-performing canvass team grounded in trust, accountability, and shared commitment. Achieves or exceeds field metrics , ensuring canvassers are prepared, trained, and supported. Maintains accurate, timely data , tracking daily progress and identifying trends or challenges early. Ensures quality voter engagement , emphasizing respectful, culturally competent conversations. Identifies and cultivates emerging leaders , volunteers, and potential canvass hires. Implements strategic field plans , adjusting as needed based on campaign priorities, community needs, and real-time conditions. Contributes to a positive, mission-aligned team culture that values justice, inclusivity, and community care. Core Responsibilities Facilitate regular check-ins with canvassers and regional leads to review goals, progress, and emerging needs. Provide coaching, support, and real-time feedback to develop canvassers' skills and confidence. Uphold strong data practices—verifying accuracy, reviewing daily numbers, and addressing discrepancies quickly. Maintain and update team trackers, reporting progress to the Regional Field Lead. Work collaboratively with regional leadership to adjust field strategies, routes, and goals based on on-the-ground observations. Identify, recommend, and relay names of potential volunteers or canvass hires. Support the execution of strategic voter contact plans using modern organizing tools and digital communication platforms. Promote a team culture rooted in accountability, respect, equity, and shared purpose. Perform additional campaign-related responsibilities as needed. Qualifications We strongly encourage individuals with diverse lived experiences, backgrounds, and nontraditional career paths to apply. You do not need a college degree or prior campaign title to be successful as a leader in this role. Required 1-2 years of staff management, community organizing, or leadership experience (formal or informal). Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and support team members. Experience managing goals, metrics, or performance-based work. Ability to lead with cultural competency and build trust across lines of difference. Strong communication skills—clear, compassionate, and direct. High emotional intelligence and ability to navigate sensitive conversations. Comfort using digital tools such as Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and field reporting apps. Ability to stand, walk, and engage with community members for extended periods. Access to reliable transportation, mobile phone, and access to the internet. Willingness to travel frequently within your assigned region. Preferred (Not Required) Bilingual or multilingual skills—Spanish is a plus. Experience in canvassing, voter registration, field operations, or community engagement. Adaptability, creative problem-solving, and a solutions-oriented mindset. Ability to analyze field data to inform coaching and decision-making. Comfort using digital communication platforms (Slack, peer-to-peer texting tools, organizing software, etc.).
