Job Description

The Jacksonville Public Library is actively seeking a Library Marketing Specialist. This is professional marketing and communications work in planning, researching, developing, marketing, producing, writing, and presenting promotional, educational, instructional, and informational content. The work requires knowledge of marketing, public relations and journalism principles, practices, procedures, methods, and techniques. Supports the overall mission of the Library by providing customer service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience. Contacts with others require skills in understanding people, sensitivity to others' point of view, persuasiveness and/or assertiveness, and are often required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around to achieve project objectives. The work is performed following the departmental goals and objectives, requiring ability to interpret policies and procedures, creativity in content development and design, and incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment in the performance of duties. The work is primarily performed in an office and occasionally in a field environment, but the risks and hazards are minimal, known, predictable, and controllable. Operates vehicle and standard office equipment such as personal computer and audio-visual equipment. The physical demands are minimal. Work is performed under limited supervision where the work assignments are subject to established procedures, practices, and techniques, and the employee plans and organizes his/her own work, and the work is reviewed for results achieved. Plans, researches, develops, markets, produces, presents, and writes promotional, educational, instructional, and informational material regarding department or division programs, services, events, and initiatives. Supports the development and execution of marketing and communications campaigns and evaluates effectiveness through continuous analysis of content, audience response, and results. Makes formal and informal presentations to public and private sector organizations, media representatives, and public officials. Supports the overall mission of the Library by providing customer service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience. Researches, conducts interviews, develops, prepares, writes, and edits publications, blog articles, advertising and promotional copy, social media content, newsletters, news releases, public service announcements, video, and slide show scripts, flyers, displays, correspondence, and other print and digital communications materials. Responds to routine informational inquiries from media representatives, public officials, sponsoring companies, advertising agencies, and the general public regarding assigned unit's operations, programs, policies, purpose, and areas of responsibility. Uses data (survey, customer feedback, social media statistics, email marketing statistics, demographic data, community data, etc.) to support recommendations and decision making. Maintains, controls, and operates assigned video and audio-visual equipment. Keeps abreast of changing technology, digital communications trends, and social media practices. Assists with maintaining appearance standards by reporting facilities issues and picking up litter on library grounds. Operates standard office equipment to include personal computer using word, spreadsheet, database, and other related software. Provides marketing and communications support and guidance to Library staff regarding assigned projects, messaging, content development, communication tactics, FAQs, recommendations, and related best practices. Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies. Performs related work as required. Knowledge of content marketing, public relations and journalism principles, practices and procedures. Knowledge of techniques and methods used in promotional, educational, instructional, and informational program development, design, production, presentation, and administration. Knowledge of departmental operations, programs, policies, purpose, and areas of responsibility. Knowledge of graphic arts, artwork, audio-visuals, and other materials used in marketing and communications work. Ability to read, understand, and communicate information regarding departmental operations, programs, purpose(s), and areas of responsibility. Ability to understand and interpret laws, rules, regulations, and policies applicable to the department to which assigned. Ability to tailor messaging, content, and communications approaches to the needs of target audiences and project goals. Ability to plan, develop, design, produce, present, and/or write promotional, educational, instructional, and/or informational content. Ability to communicate effectively, including making presentations to large groups. Ability to conduct research and interviews for development of promotional, educational, instructional, and informational content. Ability to prepare, write, and/or edit publications, blog articles, advertising and promotional copy, social media content, newsletters, news releases, public service announcements, video, and slide show scripts, flyers, displays, correspondence, and other print and digital communications materials. Ability to develop, write, edit, and adapt content for digital platforms, including websites, email marketing, and social media channels. Ability to use digital and social media performance data to inform recommendations and improve content effectiveness. Ability to utilize video and audio-visual equipment. Ability to work with diverse populations and to provide services in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner. Ability to operate standard office equipment to include personal computer using word, spreadsheet, database, and other related software. Ability to operate a vehicle. Five (5) years of education and/or professional experience in media relations, communications, journalism, advertising, marketing, or related field, which included such duties as promotional, educational, and/or informational content development, design, and administration; and preparation and presentation of news releases, and/or public service announcements. Bachelors' degree from an accredited institution in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is preferred.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
: A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain and maintain during employment in this class a City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
: The probationary period for this position is six months.
