Position Specific Description An ideal candidate for the Principal Category Specialist shall be a highly self-directed professional with strong organizational capabilities, demonstrating the ability to lead meetings and make informed business decisions. Possesses a strong knowledge in contracting, including a thorough understanding of terms and conditions, and communicates effectively with executive leadership. Additionally, exhibits a proven capacity to mentor, guide, and develop peers while operating with minimal oversightJob Overview This role defines overarching category strategies, particularly for high-spend, high-complexity categories. Employees in this role approve major contracts, lead strategic supplier negotiations, and engage with suppliers to ensure cohesive strategic decisions. This individual contributor acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for category management and advises on complex issues and decisions. Job Duties & Responsibilities Defines category strategies Works with customer SME's to develop requirements to meet needs of business, employing a commercial mindset Travels to meet vendors and field personnel and to attend conferences Supports procurement teams to ensure category strategy execution Negotiates with key suppliers and advises category manager leadership on category management strategy Performs other job-related duties as assigned Required Qualifications High School Grad / GED Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
