Part-Time, Non-Exempt/Hourly Position Summary The Communications & Marketing Lead is responsible for helping shape and maintain RPTA's public presence across digital, print, and community-facing platforms. This position leads the day-to-day operation of RPTA's online and social media presence, including regular content creation, posting, audience engagement, and coordination of public-facing communications and promotional materials. The role also supports the development of RPTA's broader brand visibility through the design and coordination of marketing materials, outreach content, photography, video, and storytelling in collaboration with staff across programs and departments. This position requires an independent self-starter who can take initiative, manage priorities, and exercise sound judgment while also recognizing when collaboration is needed to produce high-quality, mission-aligned work. Although the position does not supervise direct reports, it is expected to provide project-level leadership/co-leadership by organizing communications and marketing efforts that involve participation from other staff, helping ensure consistency, follow-through, and strong public representation of the organization. Work Environment and Schedule This is a part-time, primarily on-site position based at RPTA's facilities in Minneapolis. A flexible hybrid schedule may be available, depending on organizational needs, performance, and the nature of assigned work. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support events, outreach activities, special projects, or time-sensitive communications needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Digital Presence Management:
Manage and maintain RPTA's online and social media presence across relevant platforms, including planning, creating, scheduling, posting, and monitoring content to maintain an active, professional, and engaging public presence. Content Creation:
Develop written, visual, photo, video, digital, and print content that promotes RPTA's programs, services, events, partnerships, and impact in a way that is clear, mission-aligned, and engaging for external audiences. Marketing Materials, Brand Management, and Brand Support:
Design and produce marketing and outreach materials independently and in collaboration with staff, including flyers, social graphics, brochures, event materials, signage, presentations, and other public-facing content. Help manage and maintain RPTA's brand identity across platforms and materials by supporting consistent visual presentation, messaging, tone, and overall brand standards to strengthen organizational visibility and public recognition. Audience Engagement and Public Interaction:
Monitor and respond appropriately to comments, messages, and public engagement on digital platforms, helping foster positive interaction, timely communication, and a welcoming public presence consistent with organizational values and communication standards. Project Coordination and Cross-Department Collaboration:
Coordinate communications and marketing projects that require input, participation, or content from multiple staff members or departments. Help organize project timelines, gather materials, follow up on deliverables, and provide project-level leadership to keep public-facing work moving forward effectively. Communications Planning and Message Alignment:
Support the planning and execution of communications, outreach, and promotional efforts by identifying opportunities to highlight programs, participant success, events, partnerships, and organizational updates. Work with leadership and staff to ensure messaging is accurate, timely, and aligned with RPTA's mission and priorities. Event and Outreach Support:
Provide communications and marketing support for events, campaigns, outreach efforts, and special initiatives, including promotional planning, content coverage, photography/video capture, post-event follow-up content, and coordination of public-facing materials. Asset Organization and Performance Tracking:
Maintain organized files, templates, media assets, and content resources, and track basic performance metrics for digital communications and social media efforts to help inform continuous improvement and future planning. Qualifications Education:
Associate degree or bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, media production, or a related field preferred Relevant professional experience may substitute for formal education. Required Experience:
At least two years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, social media management, public relations, digital content creation, or a closely related field. Experience managing organizational or business social media accounts and producing public-facing materials is strongly preferred. Required Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to write for different audiences and platforms Experience creating and editing digital and print materials Proficiency with common design, presentation, and content creation tools Strong organizational skills Attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with sound judgment. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in nonprofit communications Community-based outreach, or mission-driven organizations Photography and/or video production/editing skills Familiarity with website content updates and digital engagement tools Experience coordinating projects involving multiple contributors Bilingual or multilingual communication skills relevant to the communities RPTA serves.
