Exempt Position Summary The Product Specialist serves as the technical expert for assigned products, supporting design, performance, and lifecycle management. This role bridges engineering, operations, and sales teams to ensure products are technically sound, manufacturable, and aligned with customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Product Ownership Serve as the technical subject matter expert for assigned products and systems Maintain in-depth knowledge of product design, materials, specifications, and performance requirements Partner with sales teams to provide product training, demos, and technical support Support product configuration, customization, and application-specific solutions Proactively develop new and improved ideas for designated product line Responsible for identifying potential markets, customers, or opportunities for growth of product line Engineering & Development Support Work with engineering teams on product design, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives Assist in reviewing drawings, specifications, and engineering change requests (ECRs) Support testing, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of product issues Participate in product development and new product processes Ensure documentation aligns with engineering standards and revisions Develop and maintain technical documentation (spec sheets, work instructions, manuals) Manufacturing & Operations Interface Collaborate with operations to ensure manufacturability, quality, and efficiency Support implementation of process improvements and cost reduction initiatives Assist with resolving production issues related to product design or performance Work with quality teams on non-conformances, corrective actions, and continuous improvement Product Performance & Analysis Analyze product performance data, field issues, and customer feedback Identify trends and recommend design or process improvements Track key product metrics (quality, yield, cost, reliability) Cross-Functional Collaboration Act as a liaison between engineering, sales, quality, and operations Provide technical support to internal teams and customers Translate complex technical concepts into practical, actionable insights Support training for internal teams on product features and applications Travel to tradeshows as needed and provide direct customer interactions regarding product
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related) 2-5+ years of experience in engineering, product support, or manufacturing environment Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Effective communication skills across technical and non-technical teams Preferred Qualifications Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) Familiarity with WorkWise ERP System Experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies Knowledge of quality systems (ISO standards, root cause analysis tools, etc.)
