Job Description
at Robertshaw Controls in Itasca, Illinois, United States Job Description Design, develop, and manage activities for a specific product or group of products from product definition and planning through production, release, and end of life; serve as the central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality, and marketing as the product moves to production and distribution; involved with each product lasts throughout all stages of a product's lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product of product line.
Additional responsibilities include:
Create models from concepts based on customer's specifications and fulfills company's goals and scope of work. Problem solve using creative solutions to existing OEM appliance products. Crafts detailed mechanical designs and personally develops and/or oversees the development of prototype models by third-party vendors. Works closely with project team members involved in other engineering disciplines (e.g., Software/Firmware Engineering, Electronic Design Engineering) to ensure compatibility of design. Assists with design verification; reviews design with internal team and/or customers and ensures customer and internal requirements have been met. Recommends design modifications to existing products to enhance performance, add desired functionality/features, reduce cost, etc. Oversee and is responsible for ensuring product validation; may write test requirements and conduct testing, as necessary. Work with third-party suppliers to gather production tooling cost estimates; qualifies that final production tooling meet requirements. Work with internal Agency Engineers or external certifying body representatives to ensure product design is in compliance with necessary safety requirements. Investigate product failures and make recommendations to address issues. Confer with manufacturing personnel during design to ensure the design can be easily manufactured and assembled and works with manufacturing personnel to address part shortages, material replacements, design variations, etc. Develop and adheres to time schedules that are in line with the master project plan; identifies risk factors (e.g., product design, timeline, cost) and makes project team members (e.g., other Engineers, Project Manager, Product Manager) aware of possible challenges and potential solutions. Develop and apply best practices in mechanical design engineering techniques, processes, and policies.
