Job Description

Director of Product Development JumpLights Inc.
Location:
Germantown, MD | Full-Time, On-Site About JumpLights JumpLights is a rapidly growing startup at the forefront of horticultural lighting innovation. We design and manufacture advanced LED lighting systems that are transforming how commercial growers operate. This is an opportunity to be embedded in JumpLights offerings and to shape the product direction of a growth-stage company. Offering meaningful equity upside and real-world impact in the future of agriculture. The Opportunity JumpLights is looking for the next senior, cross-functional leader to manage our full product portfolio — from ideation and system design through launch, certification, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with the executive team, manage vendors and contract engineers, and be the person who knows our products better than anyone else in the company. This role is ideal for someone who is creative, diligent, and has experience with building physical products and taking them to market.
Responsibilities Own all product families:
deep knowledge of every product, its components, performance specs, and improvement roadmap. Lead new product development from concept through launch — system-level design, prototyping, testing, and production readiness. Manage product documentation systems including vendor documentation packages; maintain accurate, up-to-date records across all product lines. Own Engineering Change Management - define and implement a system for updates Drive certification processes (e.g., UL, DLC) for new and existing products. Define and maintain incoming and outgoing quality specifications and inspection processes. Select, onboard, and manage vendors — including component suppliers, contract manufacturers, contract engineers, and part-time contributors. Manage cables, connectors, and all product-related components and assemblies. Identify opportunities to improve existing products for reliability, cost, and manufacturability. Internal cross-functional collaboration with operations, supply chain, marketing, sales, and the executive team. Translate customer and market needs into product requirements and development priorities. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, or Industrial Design. Master's degree is a plus. Experience 5+ years of relevant product development experience required; 10+ years preferred. Demonstrated track record of taking physical products from concept to market. Experience managing vendors, contract engineers, and external contributors. Hands-on experience with product certification processes (UL, ETL, DLC, or equivalent). Strong background in reliability engineering and design for manufacturability (DFM). System-level design experience across electrical and/or mechanical domains. Skills & Characteristics Highly organized and detail-oriented — you take documentation seriously. Collaborative by nature — effective with internal teams and external partners alike. Driven, curious, and intellectually sharp — you ask good questions and find better answers. Ability to conceptualize new products and systems, not just execute on existing ones. Nice to Have Experience working with Asian manufacturers and supply chains. CAD proficiency — mechanical (e.g., SolidWorks, OnShape) and/or electrical (e.g., Altium, Eagle). Simulation experience — mechanical (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL), electrical (e.g., LTspice, PSpice), and/or optical simulation software. Background in horticultural or agricultural technology. Why Join JumpLights? Participate in the company's success with equity compensation. Directly shape products used by real growers in the field. Join an learning culture at a company whose foundation is engineering. Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes base salary, bonus opportunity, and equity. JumpLights considers education, skills, experience, and overall qualifications when determining pay. JumpLights is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, citizenship, ancestry, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran or military status, or any other basis prohibited by law.
