Takes designs from Residential Upholstery Designer or other outside designers and interprets them into a physical prototype, then sample. Ensures all products are manufacturable by collaborating with the manufacturing team during the.prototype phase. Develops products that meet the target aesthetic, comfort and cost. Provides leadership to the product development team. Organizational Relationships Reports to Residential Upholstery Director of Manufacturing. Takes design direction from company leadership, divisional Design and Merchandising teams. Specific Responsibilities Directs the production of samples with impeccable quality and tailoring. Ensures all weights, dimensions are recorded and are accurate. Responsible for all prototypes to be developed within specified timeline. Directs others to produce work instructions, specification information and other information needed for full and accurate costing. Provides patterns and other information to outside vendors as needed. Collaborates with manufacturing during initial manufacturing testing and first runs. Works with manufacturing to identify and correct pattern issues and other opportunities to improve manufacturability, cost and labor efficiency. Develops a strong team. Provides direction and support to the team. Ensures the team understands goals, timelines, work schedules and priorities. Identifies gaps in skills and helps provide training as necessary. Makes sure key functions within the department have back-up. Authority The Upholstery Product Development Manager is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to maintain effective department operations. These actions must be in accordance with the Bernhardt policy manual and other established policies, practices and subject to the general or specific authority as established by the Divisional Manufacturing Manager.
