Job Description
The City of San José, the Capital of Silicon Valley, is one of the nation's best managed cities in which to live, work, and do business. The City's Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking an individual whose values align with the values of the City's employees. The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. San Jose Animal Care Services, a division in the Public Works Department, is currently seeking to hire one (1) part-time Digital Communications & Community Engagement Student Intern to perform duties associated with high-quality outreach that supports animal adoptions, community engagement, and public awareness of shelter programs. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Plan, create, and schedule engaging content across social media platforms, including graphics, photos, written copy, and short-form video/reels to promote shelter pets, programs, and services. Manage and maintain the social media content calendar, ensuring brand compliance and alignment with ACS social strategies. Organize and maintain digital photo and video libraries, implementing a practical tagging and metadata system for easy access and retrieval. Support website content development and digital outreach, including keeping the public-facing events calendar up to date. Oversee the Tails & Trails program's digital presence by managing volunteer-submitted content and maintaining a consistent posting schedule to increase pet visibility and adoption rates. Track social media engagement metrics and trends, providing data-informed recommendations to improve reach and community impact; support efforts to grow partnerships with SJFC, SJC, and SJ Library. Assist with planning, promotion, and on-site support for community events, public meetings, and outreach activities, including RSVP coordination and attendee engagement. The salary range for this classification is $15.86- $22.65 hourly. This includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience.
Education:
Any combination equivalent to completion of high school and current enrollment in an accredited college or university in undergraduate or graduate program.Required Licensing :
Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California may be required in performing job duties. The Student Intern is also expected to possess the following additional qualifications and key abilities: Knowledge and ability to use computers and related applications. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.SELECTION PROCESS
