Job Description

Description Two undergraduate research interns will support a cross-platform natural language processing study examining how communication source and platform shape public sentiment during hurricane events. Working with real social media data, interns will collect and process Reddit datasets, apply AI-based sentiment analysis tools, and contribute to a peer-reviewed publication. Examples of Duties Collect, process, and analyze social media data using a combination of automated tools and AI-based natural language processing methods ?Apply computational text analysis techniques to identify patterns in public sentiment and discussion topics across platforms Document findings and contribute to the preparation of a peer-reviewed conference paper Analyze social media data using a combination of automated tools and AI-based natural language processing methods Students can receive course credit as an internship through the Office of Career and Engagement. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Expertise in Python programming and working with data in structured formats such as CSV or JSON Familiarity with natural language processing concepts, machine learning libraries, or social media data collection Has keen interest in computational social science, crisis communication, or AI applications in real-world contexts Willing to learn new tools and frameworks independently, document work thoroughly, and collaborate across a multidisciplinary research team All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring immigration sponsorship, including but not limited to non-immigrant visas, such as H1B, STEM, or F1, now and in the future.
